I've seen several comments about poor performance of the BuckMaster targets, but my experience has been quite good so far with the BM 180 "bag" target

I am hanging the bag target from a cross bar with about 2 feet of small diameter rope attached to the gromets at the top corners of the bag, so that it is free to move when the bolts hit

Thus far, the bolts are only penetrating about 8-10 inches into the bag, but are quite easy to pull out (only exception was one shot when a blob of the fill material fused onto the end of the bolt, but it came loose with just a little twisting and pulling). there is a small amount of "clear plastic" residue melted onto the ends of the field tips, apparently due to the friction when the bolt is brought to a stop by the plastic fill material

Perhaps hanging the bag target so that it is free to swing makes a big difference in minimizing the depth of penetration?

How fast is yer bow?

I would tend to lean towards Newtons Third Law:

"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".

Hence arrow stops before target moves? Target absorbs energy of arrow after arrow stops.

I also have the Buckmaster target,I hang mine from a pvc stand I made.So far it has worked fine for me .All the arrows stopped about midway of the target and were easy to remove. I will add that I did wear the center out of one in a little over two months shooting compounds and my crossbow. But Walmart gave me a new one.

Glad to hear a few of you are having luck with the Buck masters 180. I have found it to be less than adequate when stopping a crossbow arrow in the 445 grain at an estimated 375 fps range. I shot some arrows I am in the process of tearing off the blazer vanes and figured I would let the predator and this thread give me a hand in doing so. Both arrows were shot from 20 yards with no backing behind the targets as not to aid in stopping the arrow. The plain white target is a B+M tough bag I paid like $20 for and the yellow Buck Masters I paid $37 for. The buck masters has around 100 shots in it as you can see it almost looks new. The tough bag has thousands of shots into it all with crossbows. The buck masters will stop all of my crossbows except my predator and the cheap tough bag stops all with zero pass throughs. I intend on going out and buying the monster tough bag that is twice as big and twice as thick when I wear out the little guy. The buck masters target is great for stopping arrows with moderate speed and power just not the predator. Here are some pics of the targets and there ability to stop arrows. I threw in a pic of the buck masters stopping power from a all wood 150 lbs 70's vintage Barnett wildcat with cedar arrows at 30 yards, they even penetrated well into it. All in all, Your best bet for the dollars is a cheap monster tough bag for like $29.

I have had fair luck with my BM-180 bag target. Going on its 3rd yr, but i also shoot a slow Bow so its not taking a beating like some of y'alls faster Bows will do.

Vixenmaster, don't take me wrong. Its not a bad target at all. If it had a selling point over a super cheapo bag that would have to be that all arrows stay in the target at the same angle. The cheapo bag target allows some arrows to rest at funny angles after the shot, this increases the chance of breaking arrows from strikes. It also is free standing and doesn't need a stand. By the way your slow bow is a great bow, love the pics you posted.

Vixenmaster, I have been toying around with getting a spyderweb target but just cant part with the cash. Nor could I tote one around as for that kind of money I would not leave it out.
