I'm surprised that I don't see this but crossbows have been made legal for the 2011-2012 season in New York State. The are only legal for big game and *NOT* during regular bow seasons :( No turkey either.

100-200 lb draw weights. I believe scopes are ok.

If you're in NYS, support this as they may discontinue it. And write to your reps. regarding legalizing it during regular bow season. Not doing so makes no sense. But that's just my opinion. :D

They made them legal in CT during the late January archery season last year on private land so I got a C5. Now that NY has made them legal and I own land there it's another plus for me.

I am just hoping they make them legal in NY archery season soon. STM.

N.Y.state has some ridiculous laws like this. Why can;t we hunt small game with a crossbow? If they want to generate more income then let new yorkers hunt small game and hunt during regular bow season. crossbows are alot safer than guns. I bet you would get more people out hunting if new york state would let crossbows be used for all seasons like regular bows are. Guess what more people equals more income for the state. No brainer. LET THE CROSSBOW HUNTERS HUNT whats the big deal about crossbows anyway.

Well I would have to agree with all that say NY has some silly laws. NY is so broke due to corrupt government and special lobby interest groups. I live in a meka for fishing and hunting being that I am in the finger lakes region of NY. My county is around 70 square miles and there are two D.E.C. officers to cover the whole area. All but one fish hatchery is closed in western NY due to lack of funds. What we now do with available man power resources is fine gas stations and factories for enviromental issues to raise funds. Years back everybody including myself had a small charter service targeting Lake Ontario and Erie as they were great salmon and trout fisheries. There was a succcesfull stocking program in all streams, lakes and rivers for game fish that drew in folks from all points. Small hotels boomed and any service type buisness catering to the high influx of fisherman. I see the fish population falling off and the deer population booming. Deer population booms as the farmers support the deer herds via there crops. Fish drop off as there is no effort to stock game fish nor bait fish in most of NY. My brother and I obtain farmers nuisance permits to thin out local herds, all meat goes to a few local churches as shelters will not accept meat that is not USDA inspected. Now we know the over sized deer population just leads to starvation and disease for deer in the winter months. It is hard to understand why the state issues permits to thin herds but will not open up crossbow hunting as it would aid in doing so and generate tax dollars. I guess its safer having idiots like me shoot deer with a high power rifle and not a crossbow.

The general public has a misconseption of what a crossbow is and what they are good for. About a year back I was unloading my truck after going to my local gun club for a ham and turkey shoot fund raiser. There was a state trooper parked a few doors down assisting a dog warden with a barking dog issue. I unload my Seko TRG in .338 Lapua magnum, he shows zero interest, I unload my bull barreled Bushmaster and he could care. I unload a crossbow and go in the house, when I came back outside the dumb ass walked over and ask me if I had a permit for the crossbow and asked what I use it for. You could have knocked me over with a feather at that point. So there I am trying to explane to a half witt that they are legal to own and shoot. I cant belive he had concern over my slow bow Excal and no interest in a rifle that can put a 240 grain round on target in excess of a mile. Its folks like that ignorant silly bastard that make it impossable to create laws that make sence for the general public. Thoes that do not hunt or shoot should by all rite not be making laws pertaining to the sports. Thats it, Im moving to Texas. :growl:
