Hi everyone. I just started shooting my TRT Ultralite. I am using The Horton Carbon Strike arrows with 100gr.
field points. Iam shooting them into a Mkenzie Tuf buck 3d target. I had an arrow lose the insert and point. Checked the target with metal detector but was not in the target? Was it not just glued good enough when it was made or was it the type of target. Th other arrow did fine. Can i add some glue somehow to the other inserts? i tried to pull on the other inserts but they seemed in the shafts pretty tight. Any ideas? Thanks BH

I have had the same thing happen with GT 2's. I boiled a pot of water then with a field point installed dipped the end in the water for about a minute. Use a pair of pliers grab the field point and twist the insert out of the shaft. It will take some pulling to get them out but they should come out. I soaked the inserts in acetone to remove the old glue and cleaned the inside of the shaft with a q-tip soaked in acetone. I use gorilla glue 2 part epoxy to glue the inserts back in the shafts. I haven't had a problem since.

Using a pair of pliars, grab the field point and twist it hard to tighten it and pull out at the same time. If the brass insert does not turn in the shaft, that arrow should be ok. If it does turn in the shaft, continue twisting and pulling it out of the shaft. Use 2 part JB Weld epoxy, use equal amounts of each, mixing thoroughly. Using a small nail, apply the epoxy evenly to the insert and twist it back into the shaft with the pliars. You might have to tap the field point on a hard surfce to get it fully seated. The only problem with epoxy is that you will not be able to remove the insert later without ruining the shaft.

I've had this happen too. What happens is that the arrow is rapidly decelerating when it hits the target. If the insert is loose and the arrow head make it through to the other side of the target the rapid deceleration of the arrow causes it to spit the insert and point out.
From a physics point of view:
Newton's first law states that "An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. "
In your case the arrow is stopping because of friction with the target, but the point wants to keep going.

Gorilla brand glue works great for me as does Hot glue. The latter can be removed if necessary. I simply heart the insert or metal nock and rub it in the glue stick then install. Be sure th swab the inside of the arrow with alcohol to remove carbon dust first.
