The start of Laura's Excellent Adventure! LOL!

The road trip down was pleasant and I couldn’t wait to get there. It took about 7 hours. When I got there I unloaded the 4 wheeler and followed a couple of the girls around the property, up and down hills, to check out where the stands were and food plots. Most of the stands were lock-ons with a couple of ladder stands. None that I wanted to climb, so I found a place for my pop-up. We all went out to dinner and when we came back, one of the girls helped me set up my blind in the dark.

The next morning 4 of us headed out in the dark on 2 4-wheelers. The initial hill to the property would have been a hands-and-knees climb if we didn’t have the ORV’s. Straight up.

We left the machines at the top of the hill and proceeded to walk in. Everyone peeled off to their stands and I kept walking to mine. ½ mile of hills later, I collapsed into my hunting chair, thankful I didn’t have the ‘Big One’ even tho 2 of the girls were nurses. Ah, to be 35 again. Did I mention it snowed heavily on us and we were covered with snow by the time we got to our stands? No problem, I was sweating and not about to cool off any time soon. A couple hours later I started feeling the cold a little and tried out my Warmbag. Yup, it works, I like it and promptly took a short nap. No, I didn’t miss any deer. I checked for tracks.

The second and third day I hunted all day. I moved my blind 3 times over the weekend. There are a lot of deer there.

To make a long story shorter, I didn’t connect but 2 of the other girls did with a doe, button buck and an 8 point. They certainly deserved it. The last day was a blizzard and we all hunted in it with our clothes frozen. Their bows were even freezing up but not one complaint or whine from these hunters. They were always cheerful and fun to be with. Icy blind and ORV.

The trip home was a white-knuckle adventure with icy roads all the way.

I would definitely want to do this again sometime.

LOL! Great Adventure! That's a little too cold for me. I love that picture with the antler in hand. Shucks! I cracked up when I scrolled down and saw that. Awesome Laura!

Glad you had a great time Laura. Sounds like it was a hoot.

I'll bet you'd have liked it better if the ride home wasn't as intense. Posted Image

That's a great story and good pictures. Reminds me though why I moved south. I don't miss the snow and ice. Ya'll are tougher than I am anymore. I'm a wimp compared to you ladies. I'm glad you had fun and great fellowship.

Being a new member to this site, and new to Crossbow hunting, I am reading your post and looking at the pics with great interest. One of the pics shows your crossbow in a horizontal position; and I'm trying to figure out if it is simply resting on an open window.....or.....is it sitting in some kind of support system. I am hoping against all hope that it is cradled in something that holds the xbow in highly ready-to-go positiion.

Thank you very much for your sharing; and were you to reply to my posted question, I would be grateful big time. I am convinced that having ones xbow at the 'ready' position is an almost must do......I just need to find a product that fits the bill. I hunt in a ground blind; and am not concerned about products for tree stands. Again, thank you.

Hi Muskrat!
I have tried every mono-pod, bi-pod and knee pod out there and the one I use is the Primo's Trigger Stick tri-pod when I hunt on the ground. That particular blind also has adjustable bars to rest your stirrup on if you prefer, but the tri-pod allows me to sit back and rest the stock on the arm of my chair or lap until I'm ready to shoot. I'm also know for using rope slings to suspend one end or another, heh, heh......

Nice pictures Laura! Late season is a tough time for a hunt. You all made an impressive effort and did fairly well besides. If I remember correctly the weather didn't cooperate for you last year either. Congrads!

Wow!! Great job, ladies! It was 66 degrees here in Southern Illinois today and I spent the last half of the afternoon on a deer stand, watching triplet fawns smell the lower rungs of the 15' metal ladder stand in which I was sitting while mother doe kept a keen eye on that glob at the top of the steps, finally telling the youngsters that it was time to move on. Two 15" eight pointers and a spike rounded out the visitors while Mr. Big never did show to get his share of the acorns. At one point during their 20 minute stay, all of the deer were within 25 yards of me, making for a great time. Next Thursday will be the last day for the Illinois archery season and, at least for the next few days, the weather is suppose to stay tolerable, not even close to what the ladies went through on their successful hunt.
