As I am like many of us cold weather hunters. Warm feet is will keep us out in the cold, But cold feet will bring us inside in a hurry. I have struggled with cold feet for longer than I can remember and part of this is to inferior socks. I received a new set of hunting boots for Christmas and though it was time to catch up on sock technology. So I started searching the web and came across a great site.
http://www.foxsox.co...ndex.aspx#Facts
After reading and searching this site I decided to buy and try a pair of there TRAILHEAD #2097 which contains 77% merino wool, 22% stretch nylon, 1% spandex. The merino wool is not itchy at all.
So with the new boots and socks on it was off to the woods. It was 20 degree's out and plenty of snow on the ground. I walk around for about 30 min. until I found what I thought would be a good place to hunt. So I set up behind some thickets waiting for a deer. After four hours my feet were still toasty warm. At the end of the day I came home and took the new boots and socks off. My left foot was about 60% damp with sweat and the right about 40%. Now the thing that impressed me the most was that the merino wool will keep your feet warm even being very damp with sweat. Now I have to do more reading on sock liners with wick away. Oh ya. The boots worked great also and I will try them with different socks to see if they perform as well as the socks did and I will also try the new socks in my old pac hunting boots. I will give a update soon.

Update, I have tried these socks in both my hunting boots. Even if my feet sweat they stay toasty warm. I would recommend these socks to any one. Heres a link and on the right hand side of the page they have a sock selector.

Not to hi-jack the thread but I have a problem keeping my feet warm and dry. I have a size 14 FF foot so with that size and especially the width I have a very hard time find boots that will keep my feet warm and dry. My boots I have now are hand made by White Shoes in Spokane, WA. Can anyone suggest a shoe maker that can build me a pair of good winter boots?

Well I found them in Florida. I ordered the 14W and they will hit I think. With one a pair of wool socks and a wicking liner. Thanks again T-C

I hope everything fits for you Tony. They are standard issue for hard core ice guys in NEPA probably because they are standard issue for the US military and, a bargain at the price for extreme cold weather outdoor activities.
