I wonder if it's a buck and what color the rack would be.

Here is a picture of a dark buck I got from a buddy of mine.  It looks like the rack is normal colored.

Yup, That is a dark buck and the rack looks normal. A all black buck would be some thing to mount!!!

Melanistic deer are more rare than Albinos, all white, or piebald deer. There was a 4 point around here a few years back, that just disappeared.

Here is one that has a more chocolate colored rack.

The photos of the black fawn is just beautiful.  I don't think I could kill something so magnificent.

The first above photo shows that this deer is all black, but with a white tail.  That's interesting.

Thanks for sharing all the great photos. Like I said, I would like to see one, but I just don't think I could take it.

Gimmy,

If you look real close at the bottom (3rd) fawn pic, you will see that the underside of the tail and the tarsal gland area are white. The doe also has melanistic features, specifically the face, ears, and tail.

I missed that little white under the fawns tail.  And I did notice the face on the doe. I've seen these fawn photos posted before and actually my sister sent it to me also. I wonder what part of the country these fawn photos were taken? And where were the photos taken that you posted. Do you have any idea? I'm in AWE, big time.

Not sure on the center photo, but I think the first one was from Mich, and I know the third one was from Penn.

Gimmy, I have no idea where the photo's came from as a friend of mine sent me the photo's. He sent them to me in a e-mail and they were so great I wanted to share them with ever one here on CN. By the size of the deer and the color of the leafs I would say it was a northern state though. I just seen three little ones today. I wish I would have had my video camera with me as the little ones were trying to run in a field of wheat (2" tall and just turned green) but really couldn't  yet. There legs were all over the place. It was fun to watch!!!

Never saw a black deer until now, thank you for the post. I have to agree with Gimmy, I would find it dang near impossible to pull the trigger on such an unusual and beautiful deer.

I think I posted this photo before but maybe some newbie's might like to see this piebold. He's nothing like the black deer, but just as pretty.  This deer was supposed to have been harvested in Mississippi, but you know how rumors go.

saw one alongside I30 Hot Spring, Saline county line back around 96. Thought it was a big dog then a small cow till got close enough to see it was a buck.
