I would not call myself a professional reviewer, just a average man’s views on a bow. :)

Got my dad a Darton Serpent a couple of weeks ago and have put about 40 shots through it. In no particular order here are my thoughts.

I never shot one with the old style stock but esthetically the new stock looks better to me.

The fit is good and the finish seems very good.

The bow was easy to put together and To me, everything  seems robust, from the stock to the strings, stirrup ….I like it!

Really like the gun style safety on the LTD. My father liked it better than the normal crossbow safety position as well. However, it does not auto safety, as the regular Serpent does from what I read.

The bow comes with butt plate extenders. I think this is a very cool feature for those of us with long arms.

The bow is 170 pounds buy my 78 year old dad had not problems cocking it. He said it was a little harder than the Pro Slider but never once did he struggle. My wife could not cock it though.

For a crossbow it seemed pretty quite. The string stoppers and limb savers help.

The trigger is VERY nice!

22" Carbon Express arrow weigh  in around 380 grains.

As with most modern crossbows, the Serpent is very accurate. The nice trigger made for tighter groups

The fixed Darton scope seems quit adequate for the job. Has clear, multiple lines for extended shooting distances.  I really like the rings that came with the scope. Inside the rings the put a thin piece of rubber. Makes for a snug fit.

The black quiver that came with it is good as well. Matches the bow.

I have shot a Turbo and to me, I like the serpent better.

The string stoppers make the bow more quite and less shock. Seems to me that all bow companies should incorporate these into bows.

I like the Serpent trigger better, more crisp and just feels right.

The safety on the LTD model is an upgrade. I really like the rifle style. Seems to me that all bow companies should incorporate these into bows.

The Serpent seemed a little heavier. My dad said he could feel the wait but it seemed to help him hold more steady.

The only things I would change is make the barrel black, I like a all black bow and trim some weight off  the bow. Still it’s not to heavy and balances out nicely

Really like the handles on the rope cocker. Only thing I would change is a little thicker rope and have them length specific.

My dad and me are both looking forward to hunting with the LTD

On an older (Fireforce) I have, I painted the whole bow.  Took it apart, sanded the stock, reshaped a coupla areas and painted it semi-gloss black.
Then used a "brake clean" (automotive cleaner) to clean the sides of the rail/barrel. I masked the top and trigger area and painted the sides of the rail/barrel.
I also painted the foot stirrup.
Used an epoxy paint.  So far, it's held up well.

As for the safety, I thought all Darton (Great Lakes) bows had the same safety...manual.  I also like its position.
The "second"....safety, the string safety is an unusual piece.  But very effective...!

3 shots at 30 yards with the Serpent LTD. Used the bed rail of my truck to shoot off of.

You have a exelente bow, I'd tryied on the last 3D world championship, almost all the German selection have that bow. But they told me that they had to solve one problem,They need to create a extra pice on the cheak area because it's to far from the stock until the eye level of the scope. It's easy to do it in home. Other thing you must have atention the string supressors with the time start to corrod the area of the server.

Miguel, that is one fine looking bow you got your father. Would you like to be my son? Half of the time my bows are at my sons and I have to fetch my toys to play with them. I have never owned a Darton but they look on par with a Ten Point or even better in craftmanship. Nice bow and good son. :goodjob:

Darton builds some great bows. I did a review on the Serpent a while back and I liked it so much I went and bought an Impact for myself. The penetration I'm getting with a custom arrow is amazing. I'm taking a 10 inch piece of XX75 in 1915 and glueing it inside a Victory shaft with a 92 grain brass insert in front. Top it with a 100 grain head and 3 inch Fusion vanes. 520 grains total weight. It makes the bow very quiet. The noise of the arrow hitting the bag is louder than the bow. I like these bows. Probably one of the most overlooked crossbows out there.

I'm going to get with you on some of those arrows Mike. Also some Victory arrows for me Darton DS-3800 compound bow.

Hunter2, if you need more speed, the Lighting is your bow and it gets the speed with a heavy arrow.
