I am looking at an '09 Horton 175HD, It is NIB. Will Horton honor any major defects if I am not the original owner ?

Thank you

Just bought a TRT Ultra Lite and I love it! But I do have one pretty serious issue with it. The safety is extremely hard to turn off without making a lot of noise. Is this a common problem? Or is it just me? The safety is also really hard to push. Other than that, it's awesome!!!

im shooting an old Horton Supermag. Not sure what year, it has an owners manual with it that says 1993 on it. anyways, it says that i can shoot the LS2 and CS2 bolts from it. but the carbon bolts of today seem to be much lighter than they were in 93. how light of a bolt can i shoot? i'd like to stay between 425g and 460g (im shooting 450g-460g currently)

can i safely shoot the new carbons (mx, and bone collectors, or even gold tips, or Carbon Express) weighing around 416g-440g?

thanks for your time!

Just bought TRT ultralight 175 and have a question.  What is the weight on the bolts that come in the package? I see nothing on the bolts.  I intend to practice with these and wish to match weights.  I have 100gr. field tips

Thank you.

A friend just bought a Horton Vision with their scope with the lighted retical! He is having problems getting the proper eye relief. He is telling me he has to get right up almost on the scope....This is not his first bow and he is familiar with mounting scopes. Any suggestions?

what string is the replacement string for a trt ultra lite express?i went to bass pro to get one yesterday and they only stock one string. The guy working at the archery counter said that all new hortons used the same string.Im no expert but that didnt sound right to me.lastly are there aftermarket strings that will last longer and possibly be faster than the stock horton.I dont shoot very much and i have already went through two strings due to servings wearing out so quick.I love this bow and the only negative thing i can say about it is the serving wears out way too quick.

Wow... that guy at Bass Pro is setting himself and BPS up for some hellatious potential lawsuits... who KNOWS what horror could come out of using the WRONG string on an Xbow?? He is spreading disinformation that could DESTROY your bow and possibly your FACE! Just Google "Viper X" and order one of their PREMIUM (NOT OEM) strings... prolly cheaper than stock Horton and top of the line, usually free shipping. And seriously, could you go back to that Bass Pro Shop and get me the guy's name? And the address of that store? Please? I'd love to have a friendly chat with him and his boss before someone gets hurt... believe it or not, last fall I was in the BPS in Portage, Indiana, and the guy there was telling folks they could shoot full-sized COMPOUND BOW ARROWS out of their Vision 175... (you CAN'T!!) so be REALLY careful about what they tell you at the big box stores...

I asked a Horton bowtech, who I trust  implicitly, the same question last fall. He is a shooter and dedicated hunter who owns several different Horton Xbows himself. Also note that he does not sell or make any money off of ViperX strings or cables, he has to order them direct from ViperX like us. He said he puts the premium ViperX cables and strings on all his bows right away. This is what I do: I buy the premium string and cables. I swap the string out immeditely. Then I have the original Horton stock string as a spare, which I carry in my hunting backpack in case of a string issue in the field. I save the premium cables and just use the Horton stock cables until I see signs of cable wear or stretching, then I put the ViperX cables on. To me that makes the most sense. Depending on your finances, that might be hard because the premium cables are not cheap. But compared to the Horton stock cables the Vipers are built like a Mack truck. Some guys like to swap the cables and string out at the same time just for looks... they like the matching colors. HOWEVER, you asked if it was a NECESSITY... all I can attest to is what I know from my experience and what I gleaned from the bowtech. The stock Horton cables seem to me to wear reltively fast, but you might get a few years of use out of them before they need replacement. Like I said tho... keep a close eye on them for wear or stretching. Make a note now of where your timing marks are on the cams, that's how you will detect stretching. So, necessity here is a matter of preference I guess... depending on your own perspective it may not be technically "necessary" to swap the cables right away... I would say to factor in all the information above and then make an educated decision for yourself. Two final points: my feelings about the cables are based on over 36 years of owning crossbows... I personally prefer the cables used a few years back, which were actually steel wire coated in rubber or plastic. I REALLY don't like these "string cables," which effects my feelings and steers me toward having the premium cables on hand because I don't fully trust the stock ones. Also, if you do get the premium ViperX string make sure to pay attention to the directions regarding not twisting the string, etc. If my answer is not clear please fell free to PM me.

I don't have the same bow as you but I am assuming there are some type of timing marks on your cams. They are either a series of dots or a few straight lines. If you see them just make a note of their position in relation to the edge of a limb or some other "landmark" on the bow. If, over time, the mark drifts too far from its original position your cable may have stretched. In theory this should not be an issue for at least two years.

In case no one else has already told you this: One of the most important things I have found that even many seasoned crossbow shooters don't do is mark their string on each side of the crossbow rail or barrel so they can make sure their string gets drawn STRAIGHT BACK. If you do not pull that string STRAIGHT back your arrow will fly off center. With a reference mark on each side of the rail / barrel you can see if you are cocking it more to one side or the other. Use a permanent marker... if you already know this please pardon my dumb a$$...

I have a Horton TRT Ultra Lite Express.  What bolts are recommended for best accuracy?  Also, the pin fell out which holds one of the little wheels in to the cocking string thing.  I was fortunate to have found it on the ground somehow, but it appears that nothing really “holds” the pin in place – it just kind of sits there.  Is there a newer cocking string thing I should be using that doesn’t have this issue?

Sean, one of the bow techs at Horton told me he recommends the Bone Collector carbon arrows for the TRT... PM me for assistance with your cocking device...

I am assuming you are talking about the rope cocker. If one of the pins fell out of hook that hooks around the string. Just take some super glue and glue it back in place Be careful not to get it down around the wheels so they will continue to move freely. The main thing about the arrows is weight. I believe the minimum arrow weight is 415gr for your bow. So any arrow that meets the minimum weight should be good.

Sean, I talked to one of the customer service people at Horton who does not recommend attempting a repair on your string cocking device. If you PM me I will tell you how to get it replaced.
