I have been comming into this link every day and waiting for the offical winner to be announced. If I remember the rules did not say the highest scoring team would automaticly with but

In the end each member will take 5 of their top scoring kills, and add them together for the team. For example: Say you kill 10 animals and have a score of 750. In the final score you will go through and pick out 5 of those which score the highest. Say of those five you end up with 450. Each of your team mates will do the same thing--pick out their highest scoring kills--and then you will add those together for the final team score. If you only kill 3 animals, then score all 3, but in the end no more than five will be counted. You can use animals from any category--small, medium or large, or you can use animals from only one category like big game.

And the top scoring member was suppose to be announced. Was this forgoten or has every one but me gotten tierd of this. Sorry folks but thems the rules we are suppose to follow, if not why have rules?

2010 Crossbow Nation Hunting Contest
Setting Up the Playing Field

Contest will run from September 1, 2010 to March 1 2011.

Sportsmanship: Many people take hunting contests seriously, and trying to win is the object of the game. This contest is our first of hopefully a long line of competitions to come, and I hope the chief focus will be on having fun. There will probably be some mistakes made, especially by yours truly, and once brought to light will be made right as possible. The main thing is not to get excited what ever happens. There is no money, ATV’s or other things on the line to elbow each other out of the way for. The only thing the winners can claim is bragging rights, and we should be able to be happy for whoever wins just as much as if it were ourselves. We are just a bunch of friends playing a game passing the time together. Kidding around and giving each other a hard time in a friendly manner is expected just like we were sitting around the campfire swapping tales over a good card game. So let’s all have good manners, act respectful, and give each other some leeway as we learn to do this together.

TEAMS: Teams will consist of 5 members each. SIgn up under CROSSBOW NATION HUNTING TEAMS thread. All teams need to be formed by August 31. IF A TEAM MEMBER QUITS FOR ANY REASON, THE TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING ANOTHER MEMBER WITH THE STIPULATION THAT ANY GAME TAKEN BY NEW MEMBER BEFORE BEING ON THE TEAM DOES NOT COUNT.

Weapons: All legal weapons allowed. 10 bonus points given to any kill made with archery equipment.

Game Animals and Scoring: YOU NEED TO POST EVERY KILL YOU MAKE ALONG WITH A PICTURE OF THE KILL AND WEAPON. Pictures must be posted in your teams section/thread. One good picture should be enough, but you can post more if you need to show hidden antlers or some other attribute. Also include your name, what the animal is, and date in the post. If a hog is taken include the weight. If possible a picture of the hog being weighed and the weight shown would be good, but we will take your word for it. Honor the honor system!

Categories and scores: I can't think of every animal probably, so if I left something out tell me and I'll add it to the list.

SMALL GAME: Squirrels, opossums, grouse, pheasants, rabbits, raccoons, groundhogs, etc. and other little critters like that. Each kill is worth 10 points. Add 10 points if made with archery equipment.

MEDIUM GAME AND PREDATORS: Bobcat, fox, coyote, and stuff like that. (Help me out, my mind went blank!  ) 25 Points each. Add 10 points if taken with archery equipment.

Big Game:
Deer (whitetail and mule deer) : Antlerless deer = 50 Points
Bucks = 100 Points plus 10 points per antler point.
Points should be at least 1 inch long to score.
ANTLERS MUST BE AT LEAST ONE INCH LONG TO QUALIFY AS AN ANTLERED DEER.

Hogs: Under 100 Pounds = 50 points
Over 100 Pounds = 100 points

Turkeys: Gobblers = 100 points
Hens = 50 points

Elk: Cow = 50 points
Bull = 100 points plus 10 points per antler point.

Bear = 100 Points (To me any bear is worth that!)

Antelope, Moose, Caribou, Musk Ox, and all Exotics, : Females 50 points
Males 100 points

For all these animals, if you take it with archery then add 10 points.

Reptiles and fish are not included in this contest.

I looking forward to you joining in, and I wish you good luck.

I understood it to be a team competition, hence the statement in the rules which read:  "In the end each member will take 5 of their top scoring kills, and add them together for the team."  If this were an individual competition there would be no need of Teams.

As a team we work together.  Your Team, 12 Ring, TEAM PREDATOR, was basically just you and Hunterfisher.  For a team with only two contributing members you and Hunterfisher came in fourth overall.  I believe that speaks for the hunting skills of both of you.

Okay, the contest is over and done with. No hard feelings. But I truely believe that, Hillbilly, 1 & 2, and NC Stan, should not be allowed in any future contest. They added nothing. Never participated. Never gave an explanation of their dissaperance. NOTHING. If they would have let, Team Predator, known that something came up and they would not be able to continue, 12 Ring and I could have bought in 3 new people. I think they were, TROLLS, from an archery club that was against crossbows. Congrats to the winners. Maybe nextyear we can make the rules clearer for everyone.  GOOD HUNTING.

Hunterfisher, there's plenty of reason's why people can't or don't contribute to the team totals. I personally didn't contribute a thing to Team Butcherboys and was only able to hunt 4 out of 6 days of shotgun season due to working two jobs and providing for my family. So going by your statement, technically I am not allowed to be on a team or participate because my other team mates were the ones with all of the luck and skills. In this economy people cannot afford to not work if work is available and I can't blame someone who is working their butt off to stay afloat. Maybe someone got sick, or hurt, had a hardship, their computer broke, lost interest, had relationship problems, or just didn't have the time to dedicate simply because life got in the way. You probably shouldn't be too quick to judge or make assumptions without knowing more of the details. Remember, this was set up to be FUN for all and to encourage a little commoradery amongst each other. The friendly jabs and teasing among the different teams was light hearted and well tolerated by all. I don't want to sound like a mean person or that I am picking on you, because I'm not, I'm just trying to point out a couple of things you may have overlooked. Breathe, take it easy, and enjoy the season that had. The next season will be fun too, but if your not happy with the team you were on just ask to be placed on another one and be sure to make that request early so that the change could be made ASAP. There's worse things out there to be concerned about. Stay safe, hunt ethically, and good luck to you in future hunts. Greg

Hey, it was supposed to be for fun.

NO WHINERS ALLOWED IN THE GROWN UP CONTEST. That's going to be the first rule if we do it again.

If you have an objection, that's okay, but word it so it's not offensive to the several other players or the volunteers who worked so hard to keep this going. It takes all the fun out of it for everyone else.

If your all about winning, choose wisely if we do it again. Everyone had the opportunity to choose thier own team mates. What are you winning anyway? And why there are no prizes. To stop any cheating or whining. All teams had at least one team mate that didn't contribute to the score, or contribute much.

I am truly sorry i even brought this up. I just thought that what was right is right. I never wanted this to hurt or reflect negitivly on any one. I just thought it would have been fun to finnish the contest the way it was suppose to be. Now I can understand Hunterfishers frustration being on his team and trying to contact our other team mates with no reply. He is a good ol boy and is just frustrated, I'm sure you all understand so cut him a little slack please. It was an honnor and a privlige to have been in such fine and skillful company and I hope we do it all again this year. If everyone puts on their thinking caps and think about the + and - for next year we can hammer them out before we start and make it an even better and more fun game next year. Again I am truly sorry for upsetting the apple cart.   Mike

For future contests, I think animals taken with crossbows ought to score more than 10 bonus points because this IS a crossbow forum afterall.

Will there be a Spring turkey contest this year? Since not every state allows multiple gobbler harvests, perhaps it ought to be enter your best bird.  Any takers?

I know I had fun keeping up with everything that was going on.  I never expected to win anything but a good time getting to know some members here better, and that happened.  It is too bad that not everyone who signed up for the contest was able to participate fully.  I know the only thing that gave me extra free time to participate as much as I did was the fact that my work is off compared to what it should be.

I hope we can do it again next year.

Jim

Lets think about the pts set-up! Some of the Team members by state Game-laws maybe only allowed one deer or one Buck & one Doe. So them picking out 5 high scoring animals ain't never going to happen. I like the idea of CB's getting more bonus pts as that is what i mainly hunt with & a ML 2nd. I don't even wipe the oil off my rifles anymore they just gather dust!

Yes it did get added up that way. Sporty87 spent a lot of time figuring it out and going over it again to check for mistakes.

I agree ! We did think that thru a bit when it was first set up because some locations may not have whitetail at all. That hunter is stuck with the animals they have in that area. And I agree that more points should be added for crossbow kills and maybe points taken away for using guns. Let's keep posting the changes we want to see made for next season and hash it out.  :sword:

Ok, Let's start the thought with the changes then.

Large game animals include....  Deer, Mule deer, Elk, Bear, Antelope, Moose, Caribou, Hogs, Musk Ox, and all Exotics,
100 points with a crossbow
75 points with any thing else
Bucks, Antler need to be 3" to score and a extra 10pts per point.

Medium size animals include..... Turkey, Bobcat, fox, coyote, ???
75 points with crossbow
50 points with any thing else

Small size animals include....  Squirrels, grouse, pheasants, rabbits, raccoons, etc.
50 points with a crossbow
35 points any thing else

Any thing else would include.... Rifle, Muzzle loader, Compound and Traditional bows, Pellet guns and Sling shots. Remember this is a crossbow forum.

I think mabey the dates should be set a little differently every ones seasons start at different times some way early which gives them a leg up on every one else. I think the dates of 15 Oct- 31 Dec would be a good Idia as this is fair for everyone. I know sitting on the side line and waiting to get started when every one else was hunting was killing me last year and then when our season closed back on the side line again. Some folks with 3 or 4 extra months of hunting have a definet unfair advantage.

Right on, 12 Ring. And some states, like Texas, have plenty of hogs to kill. Other states have none. It's an unfair advantage. How about just have a good ole, Deer Huntin', contest. Just an idea.

A few of ya'll sound like you take this way too seriously to be fun for everyone. Being I'm an unfair contestant, you know, from Texas and hunt hogs, I won't play if that makes it fair to the others. Count me out. I actually don't have whitetail deer normally, but got really lucky and found one in the past two years and took him. But it was truly unfair to the other contestants that I was able to count hogs and not everyone has those.
Like I said, don't have to worry about me playing along. I have more experience also and that's just not fair to the others either. I should have a handicap too so it's more fair.
LOL!
Oh yea, and some of the other teams had folks who hunted from wheelchairs and with cains and crutches, or were in the hosptial for chemo and surgeries ( like Ranger), so they deserve a head start too to keep it fair. Maybe give all those hunters a 500 point head start so it's fair to them and thier teams. Hmmm
Let's not forget some states don't allow hunting on Sundays so they need an advantage and those men who attend Church on Wednesday nights get one day less on top of that so they can only hunt at the most 5 days instead of 7 so we need to make that fair too. We can see who can hunt 7 days and who can only hunt a few and equal that out to be fair. Oh and some states have snow so they can't hunt when it's too bad. Maybe give snow days like school. Ha ha!
