Ok, Let's start the thought with the changes then.

Maximum members per team?? Currently at 5 per team

Maximum kills per team member???  Currently at 5 per team. Some are limited to 2 Large game animals a year.  Any Idea's guys and Gal's ??

Some of us have a shorter season than others so I think a 90 day season is long enough. We would have to say when our season is though. Like Oct 1 through Jan 1. ??

Large game animals include....  Deer, Mule deer, Elk, Bear, Antelope, Moose, Caribou, Hogs, Musk Ox, and all Exotics,
100 points with a crossbow
75 points with any thing else
Antler bucks need to be 3" to score a extra 10pts per point.

Medium size game animals include..... Turkey, Bobcat, fox, coyote, ???
75 points with crossbow
50 points with any thing else

Small size game animals include...Squirrels, grouse, pheasants, rabbits, raccoons,??
50 points with a crossbow
35 points any thing else

Any thing else would include.... Rifle, Muzzle loader, Compound and  Traditional bows, Pellet guns and Sling shots. Remember this is a  crossbow forum.

I have always felt if it's a Xbow forum then it should be xbow kills only. You don't see guns allowed on other archery forum contests.

I have no problem with it being CB only! Pts above looks fine to me. I want to add that ppl who join on a Team need to partisapate including dialog with other Team-mates. Its hard fer any Team to be in competion with one two or three Team-mates having ducked out on the other 2! Either be there hunting or don't join a Team. I think yer legal Tags/permits fer hunting is fine but preditation permits are not! Lets face it if'en someone can legally kill unlimited Bucks cause of those type of permits they can pick n choose the headgear fer big pt totals! There will be ppl who want on a Team but say not enuff fer a full Team ? Have them in reserve fer those certain ppl who bail on their Team-mates & their animals score! Pic's must clearly show CB with yer animal & if'en yer in the pic all the better. Last yr i didn't knowed how to set the timer on my camera & no tripod didn't help. Lets get more input here ppl. It doesn't matter if'en all 5 Team-mates are from the same state. What does matter is only so many big game animals can be counted in the end, that way if'en any member on a Team can only kill 2 deer then thats the limit fer all to be counted!

I think it easier to go back to the original rules , cut and paste to a new thread and then make the changes you want to see using a different font color like red so all can see the changes and compare. That way most of the wording will already be in place and the changes can be made and remade till it is agreed upon.

90 days so when would it start & end ? Some ppl out West have their seasons open in Aug. Others in midwest start in Sept. Some seasons go to end of Feb. in diff states. Would kills by those who open early or close late be allowed & counted ?

End need to be Jan 30 or maybe Jan 15. Here we have urban that goes through March 30. Most states are over by then I think. You can't set a 90 day window and make all comply. Someone will get cut short.

Are we going to have a Spring Turkey contest here?  Individual with the xbow or maybe teams? We still have time ot start one. Scoring use the NWTF and highest score counts - 1 bird per person.  Same pic of bird w/xbow. End May 30 or so it's over everywhere by then I think.

First,I have absolutely nothing against any one hunting with any legal weapon, however this website is about Crossbows and their use.
We promote crossbows ,we use crossbows,we speak crossbows, and pretty sure most every member likes crossbows.

That's why we decided to give us crossbow shooters a place they could call home. Crossbow Nation is a place that you will be proud to be a member of. It is family oriented and promotes all forms of hunting. It is a place were the crossbow enthusiasts can feel like they belong. It doesn't matter what brand of crossbow you shoot, or if its old or new. If you would like to belong to a group of crossbow shooting enthusiasts like yourself, then welcome to Crossbow Nation. We are all crossbows, all the time. Working hard to help support, help inform, and help promote the sport of crossbow hunting and shooting.

So just my opinion ,lets have a crossbow only contest. And remember, this contest is for fun.

Texas crossbow hunters - White tail hunter of the year 2010-2011. 2011-2012

Good idea, Specialized. This is a, crossbow site, maybe we should keep it at that. It would make scoring much eaiser. And, like someone has already mentioned, make it a 90 day season. Oct. thru Dec.  I don't want to give to much input here, some lady down in, Texas, will say I'm, ''Whinning'', again.
It's not the kill, but the hunt, where memories are made.

OK, Here are the 2010 rules.

2010 Crossbow Nation Hunting Contest
Setting Up the Playing Field

Contest will run from September 1, 2010 to March 1 2011.

Sportsmanship: Many people take hunting contests seriously, and trying  to win is the object of the game.  This contest is our first of  hopefully a long line of competitions to come, and I hope the chief  focus will be on having fun.  There will probably be some mistakes made,  especially by yours truly, and once brought to light will be made right  as possible.  The main thing is not to get excited what ever happens.   There is no money, ATV’s or other things on the line to elbow each other  out of the way for.  The only thing the winners can claim is bragging  rights, and we should be able to be happy for whoever wins just as much  as if it were ourselves.  We are just a bunch of friends playing a game  passing the time together.  Kidding around and giving each other a hard  time in a friendly manner is expected just like we were sitting around  the campfire swapping tales over a good card game.  So let’s all have  good manners, act respectful, and give each other some leeway as we  learn to do this together.

TEAMS:   Teams will consist of 5 members each.  SIgn up under  CROSSBOW NATION HUNTING TEAMS thread.  All teams need to be formed by  August 31.  IF A TEAM MEMBER QUITS FOR ANY REASON, THE TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING ANOTHER MEMBER WITH THE STIPULATION THAT ANY GAME TAKEN BY NEW MEMBER BEFORE BEING ON THE TEAM DOES NOT COUNT.

Weapons:  All legal weapons allowed.  10 bonus points given to any kill made with archery equipment.

Game Animals and Scoring:   YOU NEED TO POST EVERY KILL YOU MAKE  ALONG WITH A PICTURE OF THE KILL AND WEAPON.  Pictures must be posted in  your teams section/thread.  One good picture should be enough, but you  can post more if you need to show hidden antlers or some other  attribute.  Also include your name, what the animal is, and date in the  post.  If a hog is taken include  the weight.  If possible a picture of the hog being weighed and the  weight shown would be good, but we will take your word for it.  Honor  the honor system!  :)   In the end each member will take 5 of their top scoring kills, and  add them together for the team.  For example:  Say you kill 10 animals  and have a score of 750.  In the final score you will go through and  pick out 5 of those which score the highest.  Say of those five you end  up with 450.  Each of your team mates will do the same thing--pick out  their highest scoring kills--and then you will add those together for  the final team score.  If you only kill 3 animals, then score all 3, but  in the end no more than five will be counted.  You can use animals from  any category--small, medium or large, or you can use animals from only  one category like big game.

Categories and scores:  I can't think of every animal probably, so if I left something out tell me and I'll add it to the list.

SMALL GAME:  Squirrels, opossums, grouse, pheasants, rabbits, raccoons,  groundhogs, etc. and other little critters like that.  Each kill is  worth 10 points.  Add 10 points if made with archery equipment.

MEDIUM GAME AND PREDATORS:  Bobcat, fox, coyote, and stuff like that.  (Help me out, my mind went blank!  :)  )   25 Points each.  Add 10 points if taken with archery equipment.

Big Game:
Deer (whitetail and mule deer) :  Antlerless deer = 50 Points
Bucks = 100 Points plus 10 points per antler point.
Points should be at least 1 inch long to score.
ANTLERS MUST  BE AT LEAST ONE INCH LONG TO QUALIFY AS AN ANTLERED DEER.

Hogs: Under 100 Pounds = 50 points
       Over 100 Pounds = 100 points

Turkeys:  Gobblers = 100 points
                  Hens = 50 points

Elk: Cow = 50 points
Bull = 100 points plus 10 points per antler point.

Bear = 100 Points  (To me any bear is worth that!)

Antelope, Moose, Caribou, Musk Ox, and all Exotics, :  Females 50 points
                                                                                                  Males 100 points

For all these animals, if you take it with archery then add 10 points.

Reptiles and fish are not included in this contest.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And this is where I started talking about the 2011 rules...

Ok, Let's start the thought with the changes then.

I agree some will get cut short but is it fair for some to only have 90 days to hunt while other have 120 days + ??

Well life isn't fair ! LOL  90 days is fine. Here with the dogs running and all by Dec the deer are scared to death and the best time of the season is long gone.

My take on days of season isn't a real factor & here is why. If'en yer allowed only so many animals to count, when you have reached that amount yer done whether 1st week or month. What we need to do is come up with whats a fair limit fer all contest members involved. Another way to help with this is allow one Buck & one Doe & the one's you post is yer contest choice! So example you kill a 6 pt 1st & post pic, then later you shoot a 10 pt & post a pic. Yer going to get yer 6 pt as yer Buck as it was yer 1st choice! Input please we can hash all of it out in short order

Seems like there is a lot of members maybe even a majority, who would prefer the 2011 Crossbow Nation hunting contest to be for Crossbows only.
sounds good to me , after all ,this is a Crossbow website.
Maybe we should have a poll or vote for members?
What do you think?

A Poll would be fine if'en its those members who will be on Teams. If their not joining on a Team their input isn't needed. Maybe a Poll from those who were in the 2010 contest that actually hunted. Not those that joined then left their their Team-mates high n dry!

The #1 big game animal 90% of us hunt is deer, small game & varmits should be lumped into one group Bobs, Yotes, Coons,Possum's & Hogs, those are Tx. #1 varmits. They even shoot them out out of Choppers!
TPWD considers feral hogs nuisance animals and does not support the introduction of feral hogs, also they are not big game! So the only group they can be allowed is varmits/pests!
