I'm new to crossbows, but I'm also a sailor. So what's that got to do with anything? Well there is a product we use in sailing to lube the sails, masts and anything else that needs to work with less friction under adverse conditions. Its called McLube and comes in two forms, a spray and a thicker liquid called Hullkote speed polish.
I put a new string on my recurve Blackhawk xbow and waxed the string normally everywhere but the center serving. There I used McLube Hullkote and noticed that all contact surfaces were much slicker than the old waxed method. I have a lot of friction with this bow on the track, so I would expect more arrow speed. I also noticed that my trigger is smoother operating. Its not a high dollar xbow.
This product is designed to be used with Dacron and other synthetic materials so there shouldn't be a compatibility issue. It also repels dirt and is not greasy or slimy like silicone, its dry.
Just passing on my own experience. I am not affiliated in any way with this company.

Hi Wayne
When I'm next at the local sailing shop I will have a look at McLube and see what it's like.
Thanks for passing on your own experience.
Regards Graham.

Graham:
You have a lot of great events going on and more coming up with the Brisbane to Gladstone race just finishing, the Etchells Austrailasian Winter Championship in June and the Perth 2011 Sailing World Championships. I hope one day I'll be able to take some time and see your country.
Back to topic. I think you have these stores over there also http://www.westmarine.com

After paying 12 bucks for 8 grams of "Scorpion Venom" I will be looking for an alternate rail lube The price of that stuff is crazy. It works great and was what My bow guy recomended just seemed like a bit of a ripoff for such a small tube of the stuff. 8grams is about the size of a chapstick tube. I am a bit skeptical using a product thats not specially made for crosbows though.
