Just saw this posted online:

--------------

On Tuesday, the Natural Resources Board held its monthly meeting and took up matters that came from the Conservation Congress spring hearings. One of the major changes allows bowhunting during the 9 day gun deer season. The DNR proposals generated as a result of the spring hearings DID NOT include lowering the age of crossbow usage from 65 to 55 nor the ability to use a crossbow for bowfishing (both of which passed at the spring hearings)

From the Milwaukee Journal story:

“Of the 11 wildlife rules changes advanced by the DNR, a proposal to add two days to the spring turkey hunting periods generated the most discussion……..”

“Other wildlife rules changes approved will:

Repeal the requirement that elk hunters must wear blaze orange;

Establish a September elk season that would run concurrently with the first 30 days of the archery deer season;

Allow landowners to kill a cougar that is attacking a domestic animal;

Require bear hunters to provide carcass tissue samples if requested by the DNR;

Allow rifles for deer hunting in Waupaca County;

Establish firearm and muzzleloader deer hunting seasons at Copper Falls State Park.

Specifics on all new regulations will be printed in the next editions of the Wisconsin fishing and hunting handbooks.

New roles: Wednesday's board meeting marked the first for William Bruins of Waupun, Terry Hilgenberg of Shawano and Greg Kazmierski of Mukwonago. All three were nominated last month by Gov. Scott Walker and approved by the state Senate.”

This is the 2nd year in a row that lowering the age to 55 has passed the citizen vote in the Conservation Congress and still the DNR does not advance the idea. Whats up with that? Even if they had, their 7 member Natural Resources Board just got a new member who come straight from the board of the Wisconsin Bowhunters assoc. He is a life member that will serve on the board for the next 6 years. What ever happened to fairness in government?  :growl:

What do you expect Racid Crabtree, Retch Sweeney Ron...(nice try hiding behind xranger!!) The WBH is SO politicaly involved that it no longer matters what the hunters of Wisconsin wants. You & your cronies in the WBH & on capital hill have made it all about what the MINORITY wants. Your political payoff's stick a former WBH'er like Kaz in a position to lobby against anything crossbow. Speaking for the VAST minority! Polital appointee's taking over leaving the hunters concerns at the polling booth! Now the DNR's direction will change every 4 years putting re-election and votes ahead of the hunters & the resource! What a shame for the hunters of WI!

Remember the anti crossbow types fear the truth! Why else would a hign ranking official in the political action group also know as the WBH need to hide behind multiple identities? Be a man & stand up don't hide in the bushes! The more hunters that have access to the crossbow will weaken the WBH's emotional position on the crossbow issue. Hunters will use the crossbow & see thay have been duped by the lobbyist & lawyers of the WBH. Their emotion, lies & misinfromation will be lost once the hunters see the TRUE facts for themselves. This has NEVER been about the resource or the hunters of Wisconsin. Why else would they support political appointee's running the DNR rather than people TRAINED in that field? It's been all about the 5000 members of the WBH gaining political power & forcing THEIR position on the hunters of Wisconsin. This will only make eventual full inclusion only that much sweeter when it DOES occur!! Stay the course!!!

Pure selfishness, greed and lack of respect for other hunters is what the WBA is all about!!!
In fact, I think they should adopt that as their new motto....

It took a very long time to get full Xbow use allowed in Mi.  But it did come about even though the Mi bow hunters fought hard against it.

Sad to say, the hard economic times throughout the mid west is a opening to gain seasons for Xbow users.  Preferably right along with the regular bow season.  This is the way the Xbow season is in Mi & it's working well.

The added money of a Xbow license is $$ the state would love to have.  A good way to present it, that the pols will love.

Keep try'n and good luck.

Hard economic times mean nothing in Wisconsin...if their DNR needs money...they'll just get it from the HSUS...like they did when they made a public service announcement before....selling out to one of the biggest anti-hunting organizations in the world.....

Question guys - anyone know how many res hunting lic DNR sells each year?  I would think more than 5000, right?  Maybe the other side of the WBH deer season/archery(incl crossbows)/firearms use populace in WI should come up with their own lobbyist/agent to counter the WBH?  Then you could give 'em a solid 1-on-1 scuffle over the issues, and who knows - might even get someone non-WBH added to the Board to help balance things out.  :cigar:
