It means crossbows are legal during gun seasons not archery season.  And disabled persons can use a draw-lock device on a verticle bow-compound during archery season... I thought this passed awile ago...  Well it opens the door a little wider for crossbows....   Ron

Means they are idiots!!!Who will/would be trading in there gun for a crossbow?

"The proposed changes will provide our sportsmen and sportswomen additional opportunities while hunting afield this coming fall,"

How exactly would these regulations even insignificantly increase hunting opportunities?????I am sure people are just piling up to buy an archery license now to use a draw lock!!!!

This is a very small bone with no meat on it thrown to crossbowers as an attempt to appease. It will not do any good at all.

And this is why I own land in PA to hunt on. But we here in NY still have it better than the poor folks in NC. Welcome to NY, the home of big laws and big taxes.

It's not FULL inclusion BUT it is an improvement from past NY stance. The door is now cracked open we now need to "kick it open" to full inclusion. This will get crossbows into the hands of hunters & they we see first hand all the lies they have been fed! Good luck and keep the faith!

Hey Marine, thank you for your service to the nation.  Former Adirondacker here.  Been in NC for 33 years now.  We here in NC all gained the right to hunt with a crossbow last year, during any season (archery, muzzleloader, general firearms).  When the law was originally passed last year it required one to first get a pistol permit or have a concealed carry permit.  This was an unnecessary impediment and was removed completely this year.  Bottom line is today anyone in NC can hunt with a crossbow during any of our seasons.  The next impediment they need to remove is the idiotic 150 lb minimum draw weight!!  We'll hopefully get rid of that one next year.  Also last year we gained the right to bow hunt on Sundays on private property, though not on state game lands, yet.  For a state that never allowed Sunday hunting that's a big step in the right direction and it effectively doubled the amount of hunting time for many individuals.  Hopefully one day in the not too distant future we'll be able to hunt with any legal weapon on Sundays, both on private as well as public land.  Keep the pressure up on your local game departments and good things will happen.    :abe:

That's right, you couldn't hunt anywhere on Sundays, whether public or private lands....It never really affected me because I was stationed with the military at Fort Bragg and federal lands follow their own regulations, i.e., active duty and retired military can hunt federal lands on Sunday.  There were a lot of old archaic blue laws on the books when I first got down here; you couldn't buy batteries on Sunday, you couldn't buy alcohol on Sundays, you couldn't hunt on Sundays etc etc.  A lot of those laws stem from the Southern Baptist influence on the state and local governments - "On the seventh day ye shall rest". I grew up hunting in the Adirondacks of upstate NY and we could hunt on Sundays.  Our parish priest, who was a deer hunter, actually held "hunter's masses" on Friday and Saturday nights so one had no excuse for not attending church.  I've never understood why they didn't do something like that down here.  Today you can buy alcohol on Sunday, fish on Sunday, have a 7:00AM tee time on Sunday, go to the malls shopping on Sundays etc.  It never made any sense to not be able to hunt on Sunday so now having the ability to bowhunt Sundays on private land is a move in the right direction.  If people want change they have to get off their duff, join forces, and make their voices heard.  One Team One Fight. :abe:

I know that there was some confusion about the new rules regarding using a draw-loc during regular bow season. It's actually a pretty nice change from what it used to be. I have a slight disability to my left arm that I got a while ago. I am unable to draw/hold a vertical bow. The process for getting the right to using something like a draw-loc was inane. Now they have a from that you print off online and take to your doc. The doc fills it out and you can store it with your tags. So now there is only one small hoop.

I, however, have chosen to get a crossbow. I don't like the looks of those draw-loc things. It seems a little unsafe to keep a vertical bow drawn for a long time, plus I'd still have to draw it, so that wouldn't work for me anyway. At least with a xbow I can get a crank.

I don't like that I can only use a cross bow during certain times. It upsets me that some of the vertical bow hunters get so pissy about xbows and because of that xbow hunting has been limited. I mean, who died and made them God of the Hunting Lands? Their problem is that xbows are cool, plus they are easier for women and youths. Allowing xbows will attract more hunters and they are greedy and want it all to themselves. I guess that they are scared that a "little girl" like me is going to take that big buck they've had their eye on all summer. Maybe they should worry about their own selves and leave me alone.

This is why xbow use in NY is limited. You can thank the New York Bowhunters association for it. They even drew up a fancy chart to prove that xbows aren't bows.

Just goes to show that you can turn anything into what you want it to be.

What they did not include is that they don't want fellow hunters in THEIR woods harvesting THEIR deer! Not the first time for these selfserving little charts. The anti hunter anti crossbow types motives & lies will be exposed just like it has been in Pennsylvania, NJ, Texas, Michigan.....Stay the course.

Hi All,
I've already sent the Governor and the Commissioner of the DEC multiple e-mails on what the New York Bowhunter Association has been doing. I also have formally requested that the DEC re-align the crossbow hunting regulations with that of the archery season. That said, one battle does not make a war anymore than a few letters will change the tide of this battle.

We need to constantly be working to get as many people as we can to join in this fight and to right letters or e-mails to our legislators and especially our DEC Commissioner.  Rest assured the New York Bowhunters Association will not give up or go silent, therefore we are not running a sprint, we are training for a marathon, so please remain active and involve as many people as you possibly can.

If any of you know of or learn of a New York based crossbow organization, please let me know. I'm usually not a big fan of clubs and organizations, but membership gains strength in numbers and allows our voices to be heard at an organizational level.

Please take a look at the Legistlative Regulations section of Crossbow Nation and look at the New York based articles. :abe:

I would join a group to have my voice heard. I may be an idiot as someone earlier said but I traded my gun for a xbow! I love the idea of being able to use a crossbow; I think it's nuts we can't during bow season but I'll take what we have now.. It's better than no xbows what so ever!

I think when its finally legal for archery season the tags will be just like it is now IMO (ya get an extra either sex tag)??????Just dont know if you will have to take a course anymore......Which I had to do for regular bows!!!!!As of right now you dont have to while hunting regular and muzzle season, but you have to use your muzzle/regular season tag for your kill then........
