Just saw this on Archery Talk
Annually, the WI DNR conducts a gun deer hunter mail survey. Last year was the first time they asked gun hunters the following question.
"Do you support making the crossbow a legal weapon for use during the archery deer season for any Wisconsin archery hunter?”
This same question has been asked on the bowhunter mail-in survey (conducted every 4 years) in 2005 and 2009 this question was rejected by the majority of bowhunters asked via the DNR’s mail in survey.
This question has been asked to several different user groups including bowhunters and to general sportsmen via the CC spring hearings in 2005 and 2011 and in every case, the majority of respondents asked has rejected full inclusion. The newly released results from the DNR’s gun deer hunter survey shows that once again, crossbow full inclusion is rejected by the majority of respondents asked. This most recent survey of gun deer hunters shows 55% say NO to full inclusion. WI has 650,000 gun deer hunters and 250,000 bowhunters meaning the majority ( 400,000 ) gun hunters do not bow hunt and its clear they are not in favor of crossbow expansion in the archery deer season.
This does not come as a surprise as full inclusion has never seen majority support for as long as the question has been asked. You can view the survey results at this link.

Jeff and I have discussed this guy at length and know all about him, but feel like it is best to know who he is and as long as no rules are violated on CN,just ignore him.
Just put him on your ignore list and dont read his post as many members have done with him and others.

Rancid, Retch Sweeny,Ron or whatever his alias is today broke no rules here. He is a constant reminder of the misinformation & lies that surround the crossbow issue! This is why we must fight in each state for hunters rights! He & his WBH cronies will stop at nothing to keep fellow hunters from the Autumn woods. Both firearm & crossbow! The hunters of WI vote to keep archery OUT of the 9 day gun season. But they were ignored by the political appointee's! Hunters input means nothing!! Maybe make some campaign contributions & you can get things done! They have hired lobbyists, lawyers & now back political appointee's to run the WI DNR. Now the decisions are no longer made with the resource in mind but with political favors! They made their deal with the "devil"!!! And its the MAJORITY of hunters in WI that will pay the price! I resent the fact that they call themselves bowhunters!

Glad we don't have this Class of hunters here in Texas as a majority. Makes let and let live and hunt so much better for everyone. How stinky. I have to give praise where it's due. the LSBA isn't a bad group like some of the other states clubs are. I may even pay the membership fee and attend the banquet this weekend. How's that for not too bad. May even donate a few things, and have an invite to have a free booth in a different clubs capacity. Hmm.
I would even gather the Trad club and the LSBA with the Crossbow Hunters and the bow fishing assoc. to fight legislation together, and it would work. Arrows are arrows.

I am not surprised that RC reported this survey. As many may recall, when this survey was first announced on the archery blogs there was quite a few comments suggesting WBH members should get on the site...using the code word provided...and vote. Mailings to persons who were selected to take the survey required that the person selected had to use their own customer number to prevent scamming the survey. If more than one use of a customer number was found that entry was eliminated. Just knowing the code was not enough for the answers to the survey to be counted. Brian, who wrote the survey did this so just this type of activity could be spotted and prevented. Quite a few people who should not have voted tried to do so...at a rate of three to one against crossbows.
I might add this is not the only way the survey can be scammed as those apposed to crossbows could reach survey responders in other ways and scam the results in other way which can not be detected.
The reason this survey question was done, in the way it was done was because there was not enough funding to do better survey like those done by NJ, NY and Georgia. Better surveys also asked questions to determine why, and to what degree those surveyed held their views. In Wisconsin for example many gun hunters are upset with the influence of the WBH efforts to get larger and larger share of the big game hunting season, which is now about one hundred days. WBH, who are pushing a concept of "Greater or Lessor Weapon" want to push crossbows into the gun season while allowing vertical bows hunters to hunt in all big game seasons. Naturally gun hunters are worried about this, and would naturally respond to a single level survey negatively if they were worried that their season would be eroded even more by the archers.
The Wisconsin Crossbow Federation had expressed concerns about the survey methods used by the agency...not Brian's fault...because we were aware that a poor survey would be use against us by the likes of RC.
Quite frankly it is disturbing to see the tactics used RC and the WBH in order to get what they want. When we go to Madison to talk to legislators we always make it quite clear who represents both side of the debate. But the WBH use subterfuge. For example when we spoke with Representative Gary Kauchen, (R-6) who is in the process of drafting a Greater or lessor weapon season bill, he seemed very surprised to find out anyone was against his crossbow bill. In other words, the Wisconsin Bowhunters or their lobbyist, Ron Kuehn of DeWitt Ross & Stevens had been telling the Representative that people who supported crossbows were for this concept. No doubt the WBH wanted the legislators to get this bill passed before the Pro-crossbow forces had any idea what is up. If you live in the six district represented by Gary Kauchen you might want to write him and let him know crossbow supporters don't want to get pushed into the gun season and that the WBH do NOT REPRESENT US! His address is: Representative Gary Tauchen P.O. Box 8953 Madison, WI 53708 Actually anyone who wants crossbows choice in Wisconsin should write.

It is very disturbing how the anti crossbow types go about their business of misinformation & lies. But this is just business as usual for this crew. Attacking fellow hunters & attempting to keep them out of the WBH Season! This is exactly how the anti's worked Pennsylvania. We were just lucky enough to have some members (just barely) of our Board of Commissioners that were not political appointee's or scared off by the lawyers & lobbyists...The WBH is the WORST type of anti hunter group! They try & pass them selves off as a hunting organization but they have little if any reguard for fellow hunters. It's their way or nothing at all! Stay the course...full inclusion will just be that much sweeter when it is achived!
