I don't know how many of you hunt from a climbing tree stand but I do a lot. I hunt a lot of state land areas as well as my property. I'm usually on the go and moving.  Even though I let my wife and hunting buddies know the general area I'm in, it would take hours to find me cause I'm almost always alone. Usually in some huge cedar swamp. I learned about " suspension trauma " when your hanging in a full body harness, wow scarry.  So I bought a rescue one controlled descent system. I was practicing with it and it is totally awesome,  now I can let myself down to the ground if I fall out of my stand.  I recommended it to anyone.  You can repack it and reuse it and it's really easy to do. It weighs 6 pounds.  Totally cool

Hi vh64

I saw the video on them last year. They look pretty cool. I didn't get to see it first hand yet. Is it cumbersome in any way?  Straps confortable?

Hi crappie-tom, no it's not cumbersome at all. I don't want to wear anything extra really but I'm trying to use a little of my common sense starting this year lol. What I like is it is really easy to put on and it's not heavy ....feels like I've got a partridge in my game pouch kinda. There is 30 feet of rope in the back laid flat in a serpentine fashion in elastic holders, real easy to repack . The straps are as comfortable as can be expected wearing a full body harness I've tried others and I've never found any that are like wearing nothing. But it's really not bad at all. I practiced with it and it was easy to use.  It was so cool hanging up in the tree and in less than a minute I was standing on the ground .....how much is that worth to you? But everything considered it is comfortable and I see nothing that would get in my way and most importantly make me not want to wear it for dread.

Last year Cabelas carried this item, I just checked the site and it's not available yet. I hope they carry it this year.  They have a great fall sale and, that's a item I would pick up then.  If not I'll grab one somewhere else.

Thanks for the input. I forgot I wanted to add that item to this years supply list.

Hi Cajun executioner, I believe the viper is a climbing stand isn't it.  Please take the time to practice using your equipment with someone with you. Get familiar with it before your out in the woods and it's dark. Climbers are the stands you have to be the most careful with but to me are the most fun to use. Also with climbers it's good to have a "hat light "so both your hands are free. Have fun. Oh and a folding saw.

i was playing around last year hanging from a harness and i learned alot. it gets painfull real fast and you can't move around like you think you could. if you fall and end up facing away from the tree it is real hard to get turned around. i have been looking at this and the spider line. the only thing is the harness looks pretty bulky. the spider line would just hook to the tree. although i do like the harness cause it is reusable and you can control the fall. they would sell a lot i bet if there were demos in the stores.

Yes tracker 1 I agree. It will be a little different than a regular harness because it feels like you have a game pouch but it was not uncomfortable to me. I need that security hunting by myself. My friends and family will know where I'm at but it could take hours depending what time I fall and am hanging there. I'm definitely going to keep a good knife on me also. Plus my cell phone has a hard time working and gps devices in remote areas and when there are a lot of leaves still on. The other harness you mentioned may be a real nice one.

Hi VH64

Just ordered from Mountaineer Sports the Resue 1 cds 2 , the Linemans safety rope with pursic knot and, the 30' treestand ascend/descend safety line.  I thought this through with every situation I could put myself in and, I think that should cover all my safety needs.  I'll let everyone know my thoughts on it after I climb up and down a few trees. I only used to use a Loggy safety belt but, since I'm 46 now I have to think about what would happen if I did get in trouble.  I now realize your not going to climb back into your stand or if anything would ever happen to the stand climber strap when climbing you would be screwed big time.  I hope it all works as advertised.

Hi Crappie-Tom, I hope you like it as much as I do, and by the way you have 30 days if you don't you can send it back.  Like I said I don't want to wear anything but that doesn't make good sense. So the question is what system will I get. This system gives me the most safety for my climbing stand. The other system you got also would be awesome for a ladder stand or if you use the same tree. Please take the time to practice with it, get familiar with it.  I had a fun time practicing with it, my beautiful wife was with me and she got a kick out of me hanging up in the tree. I could tell she was fantasizing about times she was mad at me lol.

Hi vh64,     your right on the money with the second system. I usually move around alot in the early season to figure out deer patterns, once I nail it down I slap a ladder on a tree and put one of my climbers up.  The linemans safety rope is for that process and, the up and down rope for fast, quiet. easy access both ways.  It's all about making the least amount of human noise to and from the stands.   If I had a video of what I looked like last year putting up stands, it would be the selling feature for their products. I've been going up and down trees for 34 years with the same Loggy's, it's was just about time I took a lot of precaution.  Thanks for starting this post or I would have probably forgot again. What really finalized it was a hunting show on Sat morn.  that had 3 of this countries foremost bowhunters that shared what happened when they fell out of a tree @ 20'. I immediately got online and ordered the products. I spend a ton of $ on hunting and fishing products. My life is worth a couple $.  Looks like a well made system that appears easy to use. They actually took the time to offer folks different products that have a useful purpose. I only wish they made brown or camo nylon straps. Everyone has black.

P.S. Maybe your wife was fantasizing about you being like Batman or Spiderman with super human powers. lol

Thanks for posting the link guys! This harness looks pretty good!

Ice fishing for perch is my favorite method, Most of my big perch / big catches come from Ont. Canada. Lake St. Clair and Lake Simcoe.

I never hunt out of a tree stand and rarely a ground blind, almost all spot and stalk hunting. That being said, in B.C. a spot gps locator is almost like bringing along your hunting boots and knife, don't leave home without it. Granted there are some places that it is not needed but they are few and far between and most guys I know will always have them with them just in case. Its not that someone can follow your every move while you are out there but you can let people know you are ok, where you are and if you need help.

As a follow up on my purchase:
After using the Resue 1 CDS-2  system this year after trying on all the other Crap @ Cabelas, I can honestly say this Safety system was probably my best outdoor purchase in the last few years. After reading reviews of new tree-stands breaking and guys falling 20 feet one should take a good look at this product. It does what all the others can't.

Very satisfied with it.  I'll never hunt without one again.

I ordered one after reading these reviews, and others on-line. Should be here Monday or Tuesday. Can't wait to play with it. I hunt mostly by my self too, and this could really be a life saver. I told the fellow I talked to that he should come to this forum, and talk to Jeff about some some ads.
