Comparing apples to apples, for $40 more in equipment it's a system that WILL save your life. The Rescue 1 CDS-2 comes with the full safety harness, tree strap and, linemans safety rope with 2 clips.   Some of the others products have warm and fuzzy commercials for basicaly a vest with some straps to possibly hang yourself with. I think those commercials are very misleading and, give hunters a false sense of security.  I think they are alright for falling asleep in your stand to save you but, if you look at worse case senarios they all fall short in the safety department. Consider these facts when you are purchasing safety equipment.  Here are some pictures to show you what you get, the built in life saving rope system that is totaly reusable, and the reclosable packaging that it comes in for storage.Attached File  1028110850.jpg   564.41K   0 downloadsAttached File  1028110851.jpg   571.27K   0 downloadsAttached File  1028110852.jpg   746.25K   0 downloads

Cyclonic please post your comments on this system after you get to try it out. I used a 8' ladder with a friend to try out the descend several times. I realized this year that I'm totally on my own when I go hunting. My cousin is the only one I hunt with and, at a mile away would not be able to help in an emergency. On a windy day, someone @ 150 yards would never hear you yelling.  I'll bet your first comments are about the pressure put on your legs and, the short time you have to get something done to save yourself. Something I'll bet 90% of hunters haven't experienced.  You don't want to because it will be too late for you.

I got one this year for being the winner in the PA Crossbow Federation logo contest. It's a nice vest and probably the the top of the line for all vests. The reusable feature sets it apart.. You can test it and the others you can't. I've had 2 tree stand incidents several years ago where the vest saved me. Both with tree steps not the stand itself. When things go bad they go real quick. I am so glad I was wearing mine.

Saw these at the ATA show and thought it was one of the best systems I'd seen.  I really like this one.

Ok, it came today, first impression is.
A little heavier than my old system, but not by much.
I do not like the strap supplied to go around the tree. I will use the lines-man's rope just like I did with the "Seat of the pants harness."
Really like the buckles on the straps, very secure and easy to use.
Sewing looks to be top notch!
Fit is very nice and comfy.
Whole unit seems to be "industrial strength". Gotta love that!
A lot of thought and testing apparently went into this system.
Came with very clear printed instructions, and a DVD. Can't wait to watch the disc!
Actually came with two tree-stand straps, those who use Loc-On type or ladder stands will benefit greatly from this feature.
Over-all, I am quite impressed with this harness, and can't wait to play with it tomorrow evening.
More to come...

OK, watched the DVD, played with the system, and it is awesome!
Had some concern about wearing it while carrying my climber, but it makes hardly any difference at all.
Very easy to play with and re-pack the rope system.
Had some concerns about strap messing with my cross-bow stock fitting in my shoulder, was not an issue when I shot a doe this evening.
I think this should be the standard harness system, and not the exception!! Well worth the few bucks it costs, certainly the best harness I have ever used.
Working construction, I have to wear a harness quite often. None are as safe as this system. You can easily get your-self back on solid ground quickly and easily.
There is even a back-up system in the unit, to relieve the "tourniquet" affect on your legs, if for any reason, you cannot deploy the descent System.
I hope more members check this safety harness out, this one really can save your life.

What no one has mentioned is that this rig is very heavy. I bought one and have sent it back. This rig must weigh at least twenty pounds which can be an issue if you have to walk any distance to your stand. If I was working as a window washer in high buildings it would be ideal. It is clearly very heavy duty and you certainly would feel secure. The problem is if you have to travel any distance on foot this rig is simply to heavy.

RU sure were talking about the same 6 pound rig. VH64 was right.  I just weighed my CDS-2 @ 6lbs.  The only extra weight aside from most other safety vests  is the weight of the 30' line and, I haven't weighed it but, 1.5lbs as a guess.  I find it more comfortable to carry my climber on my back with it at a distance of 1+ miles up and down hills.

20 pounds? Uumm, no....
This system weighs 6 pounds. It will let you back down to the ground, in the unfortunate event you should fall.
My old harness weighed 4 1/2 pounds. It would not let you down to the ground.... But leave you hanging, just under your tree-stand....
Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Great thread! I was looking to replace the pain in the rear cheapie harness that came with my tree stand and the CDS seems to be what I've been looking for. Finding it on sale for 128 bucks helped too. :thumbsu:

Next week when I camp and hunt in the National forest this will definitely make me more comfortable.

From the Mountaineer-Sports web site I found a Hunting Kickoff Sale until 11/16/11 for 20% off their entire line of Safety Products. If you where on the fence mulling their products here is your opportunity to save a little green.  The CDS-2 system(pictured above) will run $135.99 +s.  Seems like SmokeEater2 found a little better deal elsewhere.  Care to share SE2 with us.
Happy belated B-day SmokeEater2.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I bought mine from eders.com with the military discount. It knocks a nice chunk off the price.

Clip, clip, buckle, buckle,go. I even wear my jacket over it.  I will never hunt without this product again. I hunt by myself alot and, I wish to come home to my family safely. NO OTHER PRODUCT TO DATE WILL SAVE YOU LIKE THIS PRODUCT WILL. I can't emphasize this enough.   I hope they come out with a youth model.  My daughter will be a future super slayer and, I would want her to wear only this product.
As far as your new outfit, why fight it. Find the Sportchief Bowhunters outfit. There is nothing better.
