A while back I purchased an American Whitetail Target for my crossbow. After much deliberation and looking around I decided on “The Cube Hybrid” model number HC250.  It measures 22”X22” X 20”, it has a removable inner core that can be replaced with a broadhead core model number BH270. (It weighs about 25 pounds so it’s lighter than some and heavier than others. I wanted a target that could be used for field points as well as broadheads. It’s a simple idea that lets you shoot four sides of the target with field points and when you want to shoot your broadheads. You simply lift out the center core (a bag filled with scrap material) and replace it with the broadhead core; the broadhead core is solid and not filled with scraps. Then you turn the target on its side and shoot into the top of the target with your broadheads.  By the way, the cover is held on with long elastic bands.

At first, I was disappointed with the target, I was shooting a Parker Hornet Extreme @ 315fps and I was burying my arrows right up to the fletchings. I had a hard time pulling them out due to not having any where to grab the arrow. It was a real pain. The manufactures tells you to lift the bag and reposition it, I tried that a few times but it didn’t work. Finally, I removed the bag and dumped out the contents and re-stuffed it again with its original contents. I stuffed and compressed as I went along. That did the trick.  The bag actually came with too much stuffing; the top wouldn’t completely close so I have a little extra stuffing now.

Attached File  DSC_9049web.jpg   90.52K   2 downloads

I am now shooting a Parker Tornado @330fps and the target is working flawlessly. As far as arrow removal goes, no, you can’t remove them with two fingers, but they are not hard to pull out. I’ve been shooting field points and haven’t shot any broadheads into it yet so I can’t comment on broadhead performance, but I’m expecting not to experience any problems. (I hope)  The image above will give you an idea about how far the arrows will go in at 330fps at 20 yds.

I paid more than I wanted to for the target $ 119.95 and the broadhead core was an additional $39.95. They paid the shipping and I didn’t have to pay the tax. They have a smaller target (18”X18”X20”) and it’s $30.00 cheaper) I fully expect this to be the last target I will ever buy, so to me it was worth the price, others may not agree. The shooting surfaces are much larger than the Rinehart 18-1 and you can shoot field points as well as broadheads. To me, that’s the best of both worlds.

I hope this short review was helpful; if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I just got my Tornado sighted in this morning. My last three shots.

well sportsmans guide sells one that plainly sucks !!!!
even there description was wrong !!!  i tried to return it and they said that i would have to pay return shipping for 20lbs back to them....and only thru ups
so, i live 22 miles from the nearest ups store and do not get off from work till way after they close. so i would have to take 2 hours off from work.... so thats $70 + $17 shipping and + $12 gas.... that so called target wasn't even that much in cost !!!
my arrow precision fury recurve @ 234fps blows right thru it @ 20 yrds... and it was advertised for over 300 fps... my excals and jackals just laughed at it... and me  :notfair:
not only that... but the add stated the shipping weight was 31-lbs and this block weight
was only around 13 lbs !!!
and  sg will not even talk to me about making it right !!!
guess where i WILL NOT SHOP AGAIN....
sorry for tha rant  :roadrage:

please keep in mind... this was not a fault of the target manufacturer (AWT), it was plainly advertised incorrect by SG

i hope your target lasts you forever. enjoy  :thumbsu:

Sorry for the problems that you've had with your target. You didn't mention the name of the target you bought. Sportsmans Guide doesn't sell this particular target. I can't vouch for any other target but the one I bought.

Did you call the Manufacturer of the target? Many times you have better luck with the manufacturer than you do with the retailer. It's worth a try.

Sorry to hear you had problems with customer service. As a long time Canadian customer of sportsman guide I have only had one problem which was corrected right away. The problem was in false advertising they were using a brand name for a cheap knockoff not only refunded my money for the order,I was also told no return of items were necessary.

RICKD, the description was no where near correct... it was about half as thick and half as heavy than advertised in the sales mag that was sent to me in the mail.
its not like yours.... its the hybid king. i know its a very cheap target, but the description says will handle above 300fps.
i bought this for my youngest grandson to practice with the arrow percision recurve
that we have had for a few years...before he uses the others we have.
the recurve is only about 235fps on calm days.. just perfect for the young ones to learn with. and it will put them arrows right thru it.

i have no paperwork with any information about the manufacturer.
if i had a contact email/phone# i would contact them.

your target appears to be very nice. i hope you enjoy it :thumbsu:

i too have been a customer of theres for years... i even told the lady my customer#
and she said to send it back to them for a refund... i asked if i could get a usps label so i could have it picked up at my house, or a ups label to be picked up at my house..
and she said.... it don't work like that !!! we don't give return labels out for pick-up at a residence.
so i will find a use for this thing, even if i have to shoot it with my solcom 16 bout 30 times real quick-like !!!

OK, Here is the toll free number for American Whitetail 1-888-233-1976.

Their website is ...Archerytargets.com

Check out their website and arm yourself with as much information as possible, then give them a call.

You can also go to you tube and type in American Whitetail Targets and you can see all of their videos on every target.

Good Luck and keep me informed.

gendoc,

If you paid with a credit card, you can dispute the charge through your credit card company.  I have done it before. Very simple, and they back YOU 100%.   Try it, you have nothing to lose.

he did call me back and to my surprize !!! they are going to send me another target to
attach to the one i have so it will be stronger for the faster arrows and heavier like
the add said it was.

i never intended for AWT to make it good... but they want to make there customers happy.
and they have

thank you AWT !!!  you have my business from now on... and will tell others of your
excellent customer service. :goodjob:

I'm happy things worked out for you John. I hate to see good, hard working people not get what they pay for, it's like throwing your money away, and I know your good people by the way you treat your family. (Hard working I'm not so sure about)  :lolu:

Good companies always try to make things right for their customers, there is a lot of competition out there and once they get you they try hard to keep you.

By the way...I had a very good feeling that they were gonna take care of you.

Now if you don't mind....I'm going out back and shoot my Tornado.  :thumbsu:

i have received several pm's about " you should not be talk'n bad about tha guide
without proof of your complaint for us to see"......

ok, if you have sportsman's guide catalog #226451 go to page 75, middle left hand side of page..... item # GID-159116.

please note..."stops arrows at speeds of more than 300fps"

but the main complaint... is "weighs approx 31-lbs"......totally wrong !!!

the weight was the main reason for me to purchase this target.

my experiances with targets proove that the heavier, the better

as i stated earlier, i'm all good now after AWT stepped in to bail out "tha guide"

The proof is in the pudding.

You should not have to pay (under any circumstances)  for misprints or inaccurate descriptions in a catalog or on line.

The Guide should have stepped up to the plate and corrected their mistake at no cost to you.

Nuff Said on this subject!!
