Howdy friends, I need your help with something. I'm new to the sport of crossbow shooting and trying to learn. I just shot the crossbow into a Bone collector braodhead block with a barnett C-5 150 lbs 315 fps.for the first time. The crossbow arrows are in deep, up to the vanes. How do you get a good grip or remove the arrows without tearing them up? Truly want to learn the right why, thanks in advance your help.

You need to get to the root of the problem and buy or make a target that will stop your broadheads before they get to the vanes.

Check out this forum and see what other members are using. Take a good look at American Whitetail targets, and if you see something you like don't be afraid to call the manufacturer. Most times they are more than willing to answer your questions. You can try Utube and type in the name of the target you are looking for.

I hope this will be of some help to you.

If you wrinkle some fletches while pulling them out, Just dip them in hot water and they will return to normal. :thumbsu: Also till you get your penatration
problem fixed, you can use a short piece of fuel line
split down the center to grip and pull. Not as good as a proper puller, but works good enough till you get a better
one. Happy pulling and shootin,
Hank

You might want to get a target that will stop arrows short of your vanes, as your target gets shot up your arrows will only go in deeper. Good luck and keep shooting

The problem with pulling arrows is the diameter of an arrow is to small for the hand to grip.   proarrowpuller.com  has the best arrow puller made in america.  Its big enough to get a good grip yet small enough to get into tight groups.

I agree with Dan, and other members, if the Arrows are going in so deep as to the vanes , As you continue to shoot the target, this will be a problem that will grow progressively worst.

Definitely get a target that stops the arrows from going that deep.

This works. I made mine but it's available as an accessory
BTW, spraying your arrow with Jig A Loo or Spider Venom and using a bullet point (rather than pointed one) really helps exraction. Personally, I no longer practice with 'heads, use Slick Tricks or Spitires for hunting...fly like field tips

Joe,

I feel your pain.  I bought my C-5 last month.  Coming from the verticle bow world I didn't even think my target would be a problem but sure enough...right up to the fletch.

So I looked around, read many reviews.  And I looked all over You Tube.  I decided on a Spyderweb.  Yes it is more expensive but I got to say I absolutely love it.  It truly is a two finger pull.  My arrows only go in about 3 to 4 inches.  It is well worth the money and I enjoy shooting my c5 much more.  It has made getting ready for the season 100 times better than before when I was struggling to get those arrows out without breaking them.

Good luck.
Mike

I have Block Crossbow target, rather common in the big sporting goods stores.  It does stop them with plenty to spare. Pulling is a chore tho. I have a small puller so I must use a piece of non slip rubber around the arrow first.
I hate it when the other shooters are ready to get back to business and I'm there with both hands, grunting and cursing.
