I am wondering if it is possible to make your own foam target for broad heads. I know that I can just buy one, but most of my fundage went to buying my xbow and plus my father-in-law and I both need one. My issue is that I have no idea on what to use. I was thinking that a poly foam would be best. Maybe get a hold of some scrap and melt it and pour it into a lined box or something. Has anyone ever tried anything like that or heard of it? Any ideas would be helpful.

My sense is that a foam target would not last long with broadheads....unless it is really, really dense. If you banded foam together and compressed it, it might work okay. If you can swing it, I'd recommend a Rinehart 18:1 for shooting broadheads. It costs a little over $100, but will last a very long time.

I was thinking more like the kind of foam shown here

This is an EVA foam. These kiddie floor mats are pretty cheap. I wonder how a stack would take an impact.

they'd probably work okay...but by the time you buy enough to make a decent size target...you;d spend about the same amount as the Rinehart I mentioned....you can check Ebay...sometimes the 'blemished' rinehart targets go pretty cheap....

Okay, I'll look into that. I was just wondering about the mats because I see them all the time in thrift stores.

Having switched to high FOC arrows (18-20%) and Slick Tricks is see no need for practicing with broadheads since the slicks fly just like blunts. I just use a bag stuffed with rags and field tips for practice now..
