Does anyone have experience with the new sound deadening material(metal) they're using?

Yes, I bought the New Summit Viper SD last week.  It is light...easy to setup....comfortable...and quiet.  I am 58 and for medical reasons haven't hunted out of a tree stand for years.  I went in to buy a hang on and a ladder stand and ended up walking out with this....and I am very glad I did.

Anything else you want to know just give me a shout.  I know this is suppose to have sound deadener inside the aluminum tubing but I don't have the other model to compare to so I can't help you out there.
Be safe and enjoy!

I bought a Summit Goliath SD yesterday and practiced climbing with it last night.  It was lightweight and silent.  Seemed very well made.  My buddy who has hunted from several other brands including an older summit was impressed and said he would consider one also.

I vote for the Goliath over the viper for what it's worth.  2 extra inches of width will be nice with all the cold weather gear on, and it's only 1 lb more.

I use an API and like it because it can be used safely on small trees without slipping around or losing grip.  (I know the bigger the tree the better but sometimes a 5-6 inch diameter is all that is available)

Have looked at Summit and thinking about buying one due to less weight then the API but not sure about stability on small trees  -  anyone who actually uses them please let me know if my apprehension is unfounded.

How small a tree are you talking about?   I believe my new Viper will take a 6" dia.

Anyone who climbe a 6" dia tree is more of a man than I am. Thats tiny! I would get sea sick. Lol I do have a new openshot. That thing bites trees like no other stand I have had. That tooth pattern reminds me of a crosscut saw. Works good even on a hickory.
