I was sitting in my stand this weekend when I had an idea for a fairly cheap discharge target. A buddy of mine likes using 3 - day harvest for bait. I would as well, but can't see spending 17.00 or better for the stuff when I can buy 100 pounds of corn for about the same price. I ended up using one of his empty containers to transport some corn to one of my locations. I figured it would be more than enough for the weekend.

As I was sitting there thinking I am going to have to shoot an arrow into the ground to unload the crossbow, it came to me. I took the empty 3 - day harvest container home and took the lid completely off of it. I filled it with a bunch of old clothes, mainly t-shirts and then cut up a different feed bag that I had. I used the bag as a cover and zip tied it to the container. Voila, a portable discharge target. I tried it out and only got about 4 inches of penetration at about 5 yards. It's small, lightweight and with the exception of having to buy 3 - day harvest, fairly cheap to make.

I have seen the same thing made with a 5 Gallon bucket. Except they cut the top of the bucket out leaving the out side. They put a old feed sack over it and snapping the cut out top on holding the feed sack in place. Some of the guys were even using them for targets.

heres mine: i made up some homemade discharge targets from an old bag target's mesh (not free initially but cheap and reusable)... made 5 discharge targets and 1 large target (50lb deer feed bag) from single bag target. for the discharge targets i wrapped the mesh tightly, taped it up, and then stuffed it in a hockey sock and had one end sewn and other tied so you have a nice handle and can slide it when its shredded up. or you can just tie both ends but the sewing was a nice touch. imma give some to family members for cheap gifts. my Ross 334 shoots 280ish and they stop well but the sz 380 nearly goes through (no biggie if you get and inch in dirt at worse though)... key is the ez pull tips but lubing the arrows made it seem like they went thru more (without lube they were inside target). This wont be a problem for the people im giving em to since their bows are all 320fps or lower though.

I took an old pair of jeans that I could not wear any more (they must have shrunk :stuff: ) and just rolled them up tight then wrapped them in duct tape.  The size of it is approx 5in wide and 8in tall.  My Horton Legacy shoots 305fps and although the arrow may slightly go through the 'target', it works like a charm. Didn't cost me a dime.
