I just recently purchased a Barnett Hellcat 175 (dick's "exclusive"), it's specs are the same as the ghost only 1/2 pound heavier.

I purchased a 6 pack of Easton power bolts, unfortunately I did not check Easton's website to check the grains prior to purchase. So I'm wondering if I'm figuring out the weight correctly, here are their specs:

SIZE SHAFT WEIGHT NOCK INSERT
LENGTH  Grains Grains Grains
20 10.5 11 57
22 10.5                 11 57

I'm assuming it would be 20" x 10.5 = 210 + 57 (insert) + 11 (nock) = 278 grains + 125 grain broadhead only equals 403 grains. I want to sight in the new broadheads ( muzzy 125 grain 4 blade) tomorrow but not if it is unsafe. Can I use these without worrying about a dryfire condition?

And, now I can't find my owner's manual. I'm terrible with paperwork! I have scoured the barnett website, and have not found any owner's manual downloads. They don't have the Hellcat 175 listed, I'm assuming because it is an exclusive.. so how can I check the minimum bolt weight, required?

The specs on the bow are 175# 350fps 116 ft/lbs The bow itself weighs 8.1 pounds, Not sure if that would enter into the figures.

Do a search on the Ghost. It probably uses the same weight of arrow.

I don't mean any disrespect but if that style of retailer doesn't make your purchase crystal clear with facts you may have been able to make a better choice. If by some chance you can take the time to go to a real pro shop they should {most likely.. no garrenty..some need help} be able to give you quality recommendation for you current choices. Bring you equipment with you/ to them.

If they claim 116 pounds of energy and it shoots 350 fps. It would need a 425 grain arrow to get that energy at that speed. But that is not saying that has to be the mininum arrow weight could be just a standard weight thet use.

I don't think in my opinion that being 22 grains lighter is going to hurt. However I am not a Barnett expert.

Thanks for the replies. The retailer was an online merchant (sportsmansguide), so I wasn't able to ask any questions.

One thing for sure don't go lighter than the manufacture recommends. It could get you into a dry fire situation. If you will go to the Barnett web sight there is a contact us tab at the top of the page, Call them and verify the arrow weight. If you will check you PM I sent you a link to the web sight. Hope this helps

Also, add the weight of the vanes. Your weight concern and FOC needs(15-20) will all be addressed by getting FOC(170g) or X-bow Tricks(175).

Unfortunately, Easton archery doesn't give me the weight of the vanes.. ballpark what kinda weight could i expect them to weigh? Their website just list 10.5 per inch (20"), 57 (insert), and 11 (nock). The site for my arrows is, http://eastonarchery...s/product/65I did find where they sell vanes, and the ones that look, like mine are 3-4 grains each. It sure would be nice if they could just give you total weight on a factory arrow/bolt.

According to the Easton catalog the power bolt is 388gr with the aluminum insert and 428 with the brass insert that's using a 100gr broad head and 4" vanes. So with your 125gr Muzzy it will be 413 and 453. You can Down load the catalog from Easton and it has all the arrow weight specs. Here is a link (http://eastonarchery...wnload/catalogs)

OK I got this off Barnett web site.

Q:  What type of arrows should I use with my crossbow?

A:  When using a Ghost 400, Predator, Buck Commander Revolution Avi, Quad Avi and Quad 400 a 22” carbon shaft with half moon nock is recommended. (The total grain weight of the arrow should be about 475.)

When using the Ghost 350, Jackal or Wildcat C5 a 20" carbon shaft with half moon nock is recommended. (The total grain weight of the arrow should be about 454.)

When using the Panzer V and RC-150, 16" 2216 shaft with half moon nock is recommended (Stay with a total grain weight of about 372).

It is always recommended that you use Barnett arrows.
