Hi everyone,
I just wondered what kind of targets you use with the tac 15. Seems like a bow like that would be harder to stop!! By the way, I'm looking to buy the tac 15, but my local archery shop wont have it in for about six weeks. So, for now I wait until after Christmas. I will be getting a target in the meantime and wondered what I should get. Thank you!!

Hi jimmy2,
You are correct in that as you add more velocity to an arrow, it will always require more density to stop the arrow. Penetration or knock down power both mean exactly the same thing and the scientific formula for calculating this is mass weight x speed = penetration. The weight of a TAC15 arrow is approximately 425 grains and it's shooting at about 407 feet per second, so needless to say you'll need a decent target.
MSD4141 gave you an excellent recommendation with the Spyderweb targets, but they can also be a bit expensive. If you are planning on shooting longer distances between 50 and 100 yards I'd recommend a large target until you get things zeroed in and tuned well. Also, nobody makes a target that is good for both Field points and broadheads for these crossbows, so you will eventually need one target for each type of shooting.
You might want to look at the Morrell Bone Collector Outdoor Range target as a cheaper alternative to the Spyderweb. I have almost 3,000 shots through mine and there are no soft spots and I can use two fingers to remove my target arrows. I also have a Spyderweb 2.0 which I received as a gift and love the target, but it's not nearly as big as my Bone Collector and it's much more expensive. The main difference is that eventually my Bone Collector will wear out someday, but I doubt the Spyderweb will ever wear out. I also use my Morrell Bone Collector Outdoor Range Target as a backstop for my Rinehart Rhino XT Broadhead Target when shooting broadheads at over 60 yards. Make no mistake about it, the Morrell will not sto your broadheads, but it's better than having nothing behind the smaller broadhead target.
Do some careful looking before making a purchase and determine what meets your individual needs. Also, when it comes to purchasing a TAC Crossbow I would strongly recommend you buy from the largest distributor in the country that you can find. This becomes an extremely important issue when you need service, parts or replacement help. Smaller dealers don't have the experience or expertise necessary to properly support these crossbows.

Xbow755
On the broadhead side of the world none of the target made will permit simple arrow removal because it's all about friction needed to stop these arrows quickly. Few targets advertised will actually stop your arrows from this crossbow, but if I had to recommend ones that will and also carry a full one year warranty it would be the Rinehart Rhino XT series. If you can shoot one out or develop a pass thru spot they will replace your target free of charge. The only other target that I'm aware of that will stop a broadhead off these crossbows is the Block Black, but I'm told you can't get your arrow out of the target after it goes in, so I'm not advocating it.

I second the Bone Collector outdoor range target, I also use the Black Block for broadheads, I shoot the Grim Reaper 3 Blade which comes with a target broadhead, which can be removed very easy from that target. You do need to have a second target( I use my Bone Collector one) behind the Black Block as it will penetrate the Block at times.

I third any target that has the name Morrell on it. I haven't found one that won't stop a Scorpyd 165. For Broadheads, I have 3 to shoot at. The Rheinhart Block XL, the Rheinhart Rhino Brute, and the Block Fusion for 400+fps xbows. The Rhino Brute is my clear favorite and, the Block fusion belongs in the trash.

I shoot the crossbow side of the bone-collector 400fps target, and the arrows generally stop about 3-4 inches before the fletchings touch rubber. Close, but ok.
Good for broadheads.
Takes 2 standard bag-targets to stop a field-point.
