Do you change your type and brand of broadhead when hunting elk instead of deer?

I am new to Xbows.  I just got a Parker Hornet Extreme.  I see so many on this forum use expandable broadheads to hunt smaller body deer.  I see gaping holes made by pass throughs. I have hunted with a recurve, long bow, and my current Diamond Liberty compound.  I have taken 5 mule deer with a bow.  This year I will hunt for elk.  I have not killed one with a bow.

For those going after tougher larger game with a crossbow ( such as bull elk, buffalo, and bear ) would you change your broadhead?  If so why and to what heads?  I will post my thoughts after a few forum readers post theirs.  hint:  I do not use expandables.

Hi McPhee. I use the same 150 gr. broadhead no matter what I hunt. To much farting around
sighting in and using up hunting time. I target shoot with same, except dull edges.
Happy shootin,

McPhee: A good solid broadhead like the Slick Tricks will do the job on any animal in North America, we here in Canada have used them successfully on Moose, Elk, Deer (mule & WT), antelope, Bear and we've been to Africa and were successfull on Kudu, Wildebeest,Warthogs, Nyala, Impala etc.. There are others such as the Muzzies and the Naps, stay with a non-expndable and make sure it's accurate and sharp and you won't have any problem. Cactus

Slick trick are nice and Magnus Buzz cuts or Ram Cat broad heads are also worth looking into.

September 2010 I went to New Mexico on an archery elk hunt. I thought about which broadhead to use. I never considered an expandable. I killed a 6 x 6 with a 100 gr. Montec G5 before and had nearly a dozen NAP 100 gr. Thunderheads in my tackle box. I didn't want to buy anymore broadheads. I figured Thunderheads have been killing elk for decades and the elk haven't gotten any tougher. They still die when hit well. That is what I used. Shot a 5  x 6 at 40 yards with my Mathews 63 lb. Legacy compound and a 27" Cabelas Stalker Extreme shaft. My setup generated 56 foot pounds of KE. The arrow was laying on the ground after completely passing through the bull. When he was hit, he flinched and took 3 or 4 steps and stopped. I nocked another arrow and was going to shoot him again but my guide said he is going down. The bull stood there maybe 5 or 10 seconds, lowered his head and his back hindquarters just collapsed to the ground. He was done. No tracking on him. I wouldn't worry too much about which broadhead to use on elk. You have killed mulies and the broadhead you used on them did the job. The same broadhead would work on a big bull, too.
Besides,I figure my HORNET EXTREME with REDHOT arrows developes nearly 90 foot pounds of KE. Plenty for elk with any well made, sharp, reputable broadhead. Here in Indiana, I am using NAP SPITFIRES with the HORNET EXTREME. Used them before and had good results with them from the compound. Can't wait to whack a deer the HORNET.

If you like NAP Thunderhead Broadhead from compound you might want to look at the NAP Thunder Head Edge it is very well done and would be a better choice for fast crossbow bolts.
