Sometimes its not so easy, shot this Doe at about 4 pm this evening at 20 yards and saw her fall about after running about 30 yards.Watched her with the binoculars, no movement. Got out of the ground blind started walking towards the doe. OH my gosh, she jumps up and runs into the high brush surrounding my food plot. This stuff is really thick, about head high.

I backed off for about 20 min and started looking for the doe, I  saw the arrow completely pass through the doe at the shot , plenty of blood where she first fell, then nothing. After searching for almost two hours, crisscrossing about 5 acres, marking areas searched, I found her about 175 yards from the original shot. During field dressing found one lung with a huge hole, the other with a smaller hole. Hard to believe this doe went so far. Taken with my Tenpoint Turbo and a Slicktrick 125 magnum.

Man, I am  tired! but my freezer will be full.

Nice doe :) Im glad you were able to recover her they are some tough animals.I shot a doe a couple years ago ..I took out the front shoulder and it exited her opposite side ribs. She kicked up and bolted I seen her fall about 75yards away.I waited about 1/2 hr and went to get her and she was gone. Were she was laying a huge puddle of blood and a awesome blood trail leaving her bed.I couldnt believe it how could she have gotten back up.we tracked her for a while and got another look at her about a hundred yards in front of us limping. so we backed off and went out the next day we found were she laid back down with some blood in the bed but she was gone again. We never found her I looked at the video of the shot and it was a good hit just dont get it. So again Im glad ya found her Posted Image

Good job on finding her! Persistence pays off in the end. Heard a guy talking at work the other day about shooting one, it ran off, so he didn't bother to look far. Said would just go shoot another one!

I have heard the same statements, one guy actually said, Shot 6 deer and found 3, said he did not want to loose hunting time looking, that really ticks me off, told him what I thought of him in no uncertain terms. It is the responsibility of every hunter to make every effort to recover an animal.

It would seems about 1 in 30 deer just won't die quickly on good shots. Has this been your experience? 220 yards double lung I have seen it and its hard to believe.

Actually thinking back, I can not remember a deer going that far with a well placed broadhead.

I'm looking forward to hunting with a crossbow here in NY before long- sounds like our crossbow season will make it into archery season for 2013 (I hope). My buck from this fall's archery season was perfectly broadside and I hit him perfectly with a G5 Striker fixed blade, got both lungs & a 3/4" deep slice over the top of the heart. He never knew he was hit, just turned & walked off 150 yards or so where he bedded & died. I've taken over 100 deer but never had one react to a heart shot like that or go that far just walking away with that kind of hit. Nice recovery on your doe!

About 15 years ago I had a classic slightly quartering away shot hit the edge of the diaphragm going in and exited about 3 " back from the opposing leg. At that second of the hit I would have bet $1,000. no problem its going down under 100 yards. My smile turned to concern as it just kept going. I was say "No Way" several times. Then thinking I must have screwed up. No way can a deer go far with out lungs. Approximate 220 yards to if fell dead. About 4 or so years before that I shot a deer high in the lungs and it when close to 200 yards before falling over dead.

It is amazing what any animal can take and still keep going.  I am so very glad that you tracked her and found her.  Those irresponsible people who do not attempt to find their wounded animals need to have their licenses revoked.  I've had some go as far as 175 yards before even after a heart shot with very little blood trail to follow.  Again congratulations on your perseverance.
