My name is Jake and I live out in Pomona, CA. Originally from York, PA but the Military dropped me off in California way back when and I never left. Aside from being an oppressive state it's not that bad. I'd leave but my daughter lives with mommy here and I won't leave her.

I want a crossbow and have always loved the idea of having one but hunting with one... eh... up in the air.

My hunting experience goes something like this.

- Deer season, Pennsylvania, 16 years old

My parents have hunted all their lives and have hunted Mule Deer, white tail, ELK etc.... so they love the cold.

- Day 1, parents give me keys to truck to stay warm and camp out near a trail. Parents get lost on mountain and it takes them all day to hike down and get a ride back up. They get back to truck around midnight.

- Day 2, it rains and we stay in our camper

- Day 3, I get sick w/ fever

- Day 4, Neighbor who went along is headed home to goto work next day so I go along and go home.

- Day 5, I go home.

I have NOT been hunting since.

I'm not against hunting, I'd love to do some hunting in warm weather if possible and something my gf won't freek out over.

She watched about 10 minuets of a Wild Boar Hunt in TX on TV. When the first guy hits a pig with an arrow and it squeels... that was that... I had to turn it off till she wasnt home.

So i'm here to investigate crossbows and maybe hunting again... one last college try as I'm now starting my 41st year of life.

thanks for listening

Hi Jake, Welcome to crossbow nation.
Sounds like you have a few obstacles to work out to become a hunter.
You might want to seek out some one who is experienced in hunting and will take you along, for a taste, just to see if you are really interested. Even if you do not wish to hunt, Crossbows are great fun.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yea I lost any interest in hunting in the winter time in the snow on the side of a mountain.

Give me a warm climate any day... I'll try and meet a few people from this area, hopefully on this forum and perhaps take part in a group hunt for some of our wild boar to get started.

Some of your years may be gone, true. But I'm 57 and just decided to try hunting myself. And I don't like the cold either! But where I live cold is lurking around every corner. So I'm gonna have to get some hand warmers and trek out in the weather. And maybe way over half my time I have left is gone, but the time I do have left I want to experience life a little. I always remember a Ziggy cartoon from years past when he said, "You have to enjoy life while you're here, because there's no HERE... THERE.

I've burned half my life just about but I've had fun with the first 40.

Navy
Shooting rifles/handguns
working on cars
mountain biking
R/C cars
etc...

I don't really regret hunting persay but kinda wish I had hunted with my parents. They seemed to like it a LOT and I wish we had that in common with them. Perhaps again one day...

I did read through review after review this week, watched some videos and cruised over some ads and online shopping..

I decided on a Barnett Penetrator from Amazon.com (444.95, NO TAX :) and free shipping.

Was going to buy one at Bass Pro shops right down the street but figured I'd have 50$ in tax to deal with and that can be spent on other things.

If bows are anything like guns, I'm in trouble... I'm addicted to hobbies.

Thanks again for the welcome.

I'm currently going through a divorce and cancelled the order only to turn around and get the Predator.

Why does divorce have to be sooo difficult? Women are sooooooo uncompromising when they are angry.

life goes on i guess.....
