If the range was not long and you had a clear shot at the heart AND it was otherwise distracted facing hard to the side then it might not be too bad of a shot.

On the other hand if it is looking in your direction then it will almost certainly see bow movement or the arrow in flight. That would be a deal killer for me.

edge.

I have.150# Horton. Fixed blade 100 grain bh. Shot from ground level less than 5 yds away. Straight thru chest almost thru hind leg. Bad thing is a shot thru the guts. This is the only condition I would ever try it. Oh yea...the deer ran 30 yds and dropped. Merry Christmas

This isn't a good bow show (vertical or horizontal) If the deer is facing you- it's either coming towards you, in which case you let it get broadside & take a much closer shot at exposed vitals OR it's facing you because it is on high alert in which case you pass. You stated "I m just wondering if you shoot a deer with xbow if he is facing you and you have no choice !!"
And I'm here to tell you that not only do you have a choice- you also have a big RESPONSIBLITY to take only good shots that are presented to you. Not every time that you see a deer will you get a good opportunity to shoot at it. Choose your shots wisely- a head-on shot isn't a wise choice.

If you know yourself and your bow,  this shot is absolutely an option.

I agree with the others - it isn't a prime shot to take. However, I did try it this year and was very lucky. I don't plan to do it again. 25 yard shot - 40 yard death run. It was awesome and I thank God it didn't happen any other way.

If'en yer up in a tree stand its a piece of cake. If'en yer on the ground its better to catch it at abit of an angle facing you. That way you will catch the heart & one or both lungs or the lungs. I shoot those tick toten varmits from any direction cept i pass on Tx. heart shots unless its already been shot & jumped up trying to get away

Trust me i pass deer more than i shoot ( even in my area i see few deer every season) , and i always try to shoot deer closer than 35-40 yards ,
MY POINT WAS IS THE CROSSBOW STRONG ENOUGH TO KILL DEER FACING YOU ?? WITH MY COMPOUND BOW I SHOT A BUCK IN HIS SPINE AND IT SPLIT THE SPINE AND ALL I HAD TO DO GO DOWN AND FINISH HIM..SHOULD I BE SORRY BECAUSE I HIT THE SPINE?? AND FINISH HIM IN LESS THAN 5 MIN?? :cigar:

I don't know if the deer will be able to do alot of movement with 360 FPS bolt and 120 KE. But you know the deer will jumb to the closest hiding spot and fly away , This why i keep my xbow ready on my hands or on the Gun shooting stick.

Thanks

Like i said i will take most any shot thats offered, Tx. heart is messy so i pass on them. Any deer that comes by me & i decide i want it, then its shot. I learned early in my youth that keep waiting fer a better shot & next moment there ain't no shot!

First buck this year was shot at 15 yds square between the eyes. A deer cannot react to 340 fps that close. The bolt cutter drove through the skull and out through the spine on neck. Buck was dead before he hit the ground. I have made this shot many times at 30-50 yards with rifles. With over 1500 Equinox shots under my belt I felt very confident of the shot.
Also having put a boltcutter through a nissan sentra, I wasn't worried about penetration.

Define "have no choice"!

I've hunted deer for 35 years and cannot think of a situation where there was "no choice".

With this type of shot, which I have taken, twice, placement is paramount. You have to place your shot perfectly, or deal with the results as they are.
I recovered deer, quickly, on both occasions, one was less than desirable. Most of you know what I mean...

where i hunt i don't hear the deer coming and most of the time They see me before I do :phew: ..or they hear my chips bag.............LOL ( just kidding)
