Well its down to the last two weeks of the hunt and its getting very frustrating. I'm getting very tired of hearing deer snorting and moving around but not showing themselves for a shot.To make it worse they only seem to be hitting my feed after dark, and the coons are getting most of it anyway. Its my 5th yr hunting and so far I haven't got a single deer. I've had chances, some I passed on,  choosing to wait for more mature deer. Other times i've made rookie mistakes and missed some great chances. I just have not been able to make it happen and it's looking like this yr will be the same.

That sounds like "hunting". You will go through times like that and then " shazaaam" it all comes together. We all make mistakes when it comes to hunting, enjoy your time in the woods and you will appreciate it more when you kill that biggun!
You seem like a very ethical hunter passing up on the young ones. You don't see that very often, especially when you're putting money, time and effort in the woods for 5 yrs. My hats off to ya!
I had the most miserable season ever this year. Just when my archery season started I came down with shingles. Then I was having kidneystone's and ended up in the hospital for 3 days. Then my back went out again. I hope next year will be one of those "shazaam" years.
Happy and safe hunting.

Mad Hunter, don't give up you still have 2 weeks left. The best may be yet to come. Good Luck.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

I haven't hunted in many years. Last year was the first in many years and I was really looking forward to my first crossbow deer kill. It just wasn't in the picture. Deer all over the place all summer, hunted on private land (family owned) purchased and practiced a lot with my bow, bought a new ground blind and set it up six weeks before the season started, cleared shooting paths and took a whole month off from work. I saw three deer, all were to far away to take a shot. Every morning I would see fresh tracks all around my blind, one night I went outside to have a smoke and I saw 5 deer 10 to 15 yards of my blind. The damn things went nocturnal. In New York we can only hunt deer & bear during shotgun season. I was at camp with my brother and 2 nephews, I was the only one that used a crossbow. (My nephew is 15 and got his first deer with a rifle on opening day, he was all smiles all week)

The best part about it is that I can't wait until I can do it all over again this year. I loved every minute of it. I can't explain how I feel, all I know is I am ready and willing to do it all over again. Better luck next season.
