I have my concealed to carry license. I have saw this before in an e-mail sent to me. This is very true. But here in Kentucky,at least in my part of the hunting woods, there has not been no real reason to carry my Ruger SR9.  Although the hogs are getting closer and there have been some bear attacks down south. So far no Anti Hunting pressure either. Other than that, I could see no reason to carry.

Here in Missouri they recently passed a law that if you have a CCW then you can carry while archery hunting. I carry 24/7 period! I didn't get a CCW to leave my handgun at home nor in the truck. I often hunt public land, but even on private land I've run into trespassers. Many times the trespassers argued with me, even on my own land, untill discovering I was armed. Funny how they sudenly came to their senses about where they were at and then became very poilite. Then there's the time my son, a professional Certified Executive Bodyguard, and I came upon a low life berating a man in a wheelchair for hunting with a crossbow. He was screaming at the poor bewildered gentleman threatening to beat the disabled man senseless and take his xbow, and wheelchair, because he didn't like him hunting with a crossbow during Archery Season. I asked him if he'd like to try taking mine and my son and I proceeded to give the guy an attitude adjustment, however I'm disabled myself and often hunt alone. You just never know when nor where trouble will happen, it seldom makes an apointment! Folks are issued a CCW because they are deemed responsible enough to carry. When hunting should be no exception. We aren't able to use the handgun to say, put a wounded deer down during Archery Season, nor to shoot it in the first place...that's why we are Archery Hunting and carrying bows. The firearm is for emergencies, be they caused by humans, animals or the need to signal for help. I simply choose not to cancel my life insurance when ever I hunt. ;)

I never have here in Ky., but my old hunting buddy that I hunted with for yrs. did. He would carry his .44 and I ask him one day during bow season..Why are you packing that for,his reply was just in case I run into something this bow won't handle....I'm gonna send 5 of em its way...I ask why just 5...He said if I fire 5 of these into whatever it is and its still coming..the last ones for me! :startle:

in Texas you can only carry during archery season if you have a ccl . It depends on where I am hunting as to weather I carry or not. If I am only armed with bow and arrow I carry the Judge with 410 slugs. If I am hunting from a box on top of a stand with my 30.06 I don't see any reason to carry other than the walk to and from the stand.

In Illinois you cannot carry a firearm while bow hunting.  And since we do not YET have a concealed carry permit in Illinois that means noone is allowed to carry a firearmwhile bow hunting.

I have a CCW, and I carry during bow season.  I'm not worried much about any animals, but I have on occasion ran across a raccoon that looked like a good candidate for rabies.  And regardless how unlikely it is, you never know when someone may come along with bad intentions.  Mainly, I just like carrying my pistol with me because I CAN!  :D

About 15 years ago, here in Arkansas,  we had an extended cold period of 0 +/- 5 degree temps. Coyotes were very active. I went for a short afternoon hunt in a small woods lot in the middle of an 80 acre field and had planned to return home for Church (started at 5 and needed to get down about 4 ) . About 3:30 a group of 8 coyotes came across the field following my tracks thru the snow. They gathered below my tree ( about 12' up in lock-on ). About 15 minutes I tried to get down , but they snapped and growled at me. I tried to scare them off. They just stayed there - there was no scaring them off. All I had was my High Country Sniper and 4 2213's/75g Wasps. No flashlight or gun. Appx 1/2 mile to truck. Temp was -5 F. I stayed until appx 7PM. The coyotes had left about 6:30 (  about an hour after dark ). I walked a very long 1/2 mile to my truck, in the dark while hearing coyotes howl  from various directions. From then on, I carried my well concealed North American Arms 22 mag. Now with a CCL, I carry my 357 Mag when in bear country and my Ruger LCP otherwise. Are coyotes a threat? Virtually never, but once for me they were. Now, when I hear coyotes between me and my truck as I return to my truck after dark, I have little concern. Is there a better answer , I personally believe bear spray is a better deterrent for animals,; and in some cases, for people. It is really viscous! I am 4 months short of 65 and have hunted since age 10,  hunt Arkansas exclusively, and and have yet to encounter a game warden while hunting. I realize, this is not the norm for he rest of the country.

In the Comunist State of NJ, CCW permits are very hard to get for average citizens and the way that the hunting/games laws are writen, you can't carry a sidearm while hunting.

Concealed carry, well I keep mine concealed. I carry most all of the time hunting or not. I more so than not carry my Walthers PK380 with hand load +P rounds pushing XTP bullets. For deer hunting I carry the .357 with hot 158 grain SJHP rounds. For fun at the range I shoot the .22lr because it makes a cool sound when I pull the trigger (cheap cheap). I do carry in the woods hunting for no other reason than I carry. You know you have been carrying for a long time when Your wife brings you your coat, shoes and sidearm when leaving the house.

I am a retired Revenue Agent and carried pretty much 24/7 all my adult life. I still do today but when I read this I realized that I never bother to transfer my pistol to my hunting gear when heading out hunting. Never really thought about it but when hunting I am ALWAYS armed with a bow, crossbow, gun, knife... etc. so I guess I never thought I might need even more backup.

That was a pretty safe answer :thumbsu:

Safe? Perhaps?

I consider it to be the proper etiquette for any law abiding citizen in my region. I do not patronize establishments that post gun prohibitive signs. There are exceptions however. I spend a lot of time in and around legislative and litigation processes that impact where I can carry. Government buildings and courtrooms are off limits to carry in Ohio. Thankfully there is armed security and metal detectors at most of those venues.

If you are a private business and want me to patronize then DO NOT put a gun buster sign up. That sign will alienate me and about 250,000 other Ohioans from your establishment.  In the present day economy? Good luck with that decision!

What it boils down to is perception.

One group perceives that everyone with a gun has an instrument for killing that they are neither capable of or qualified to posses. Average people with this freedom roaming freely through our society poses a legitimate threat to us all. While that may be true...

The other half of society like myself believes that self defense is a right that is inalienable. Safety is still a concern for us but the criteria I base my decision on is not based on fear or emotions.

Do I fear every other citizen with a gun? Do I distrust their judgement and training?  That would put me in constant fear of being shot by both the bad guys and the good guys. No one is capable of living up to my expectations. The bad guys are going to kill me. The good guys are going to kill me.  No one allowed to wield a firearm makes me particularly comfortable.

The line that separates me is our faith in our neighbors. Instead of tolerating the extreme which would insure that I lay on the ground in the fetal position while the worst case scenario executes me....I trust in my fellow man to perform their duties as a citizen protecting human rights. To accurately draw and use their weapon in order to preserve life. I don't much care where they learned to do that. The risk of injury or death from stray lead is still better than curling up and being shot while in the fetal position with 100% efficiency. Surrounded by signs and laws that prevent firearms on the premises. The same signs that only law abiding citizens pay attention to.
