I carry as often as I can and this includes archery hunting which isn't nearly often enough!  :notfair: . My EDC since approx 2003 or so is a Glock 33 with a Crimson Lasergrip converted to .40 and stuffed full of 155grain Buffalo Bore.  I call these rounds affectionately: 'nasties'.  Recently purchased a Ruger LC9 to replace current EDC and it is stuffed with 7+1 Hornady 147 grain 'buddies'.

I recently xbow hunted on property right next to the border with Mexico... but my son and I were armed with a Stag 8, my G33 and of course the Telson 130.  In the Free State of Texas we aren't forced to resort to less than lethal techniques to ward off 2 or 4 legged animals.  I'm very sorry to hear of States such as Illinois but I'm not surprised.  I was forced to do the same thing in Maryland when I was stationed there since (as most know) Maryland is VERY gun UN-friendly.  For hunting though I gotta say that MD is SUPER for weapons of all kinds including semi-auto!  MD Sportsman are active and respected...but with CCW the state is still resisting.

Yes, I carry during the entire hunting season.  I have no idea if it is legal to carry during bow season where I hunt or not.  I do have a CCW permit, and I'm sure that will not make a bit of difference to a game warden if I am checked during a hunt or on the way to and from my stands.   My only purpose is protect myself from coyotes.  We have an abundance of them here and are doing everything to even the odds of getting back to our 4 wheelers without a close incounter.  We also have a bobcat problem, but not as bad as those stinking yotes.  I'll take my chances with the legal issues, if and when they present themselves.

I don't, but I should.  I don't own a handgun.  However, in 2010 there was a double homicide about 200 yards from my stand.  A fella that hunts close to me got to witness the entire thing from his stand holding nothing but a bow and arrow.  Two guys were shot and then the killers torched them inside their vehicle.  I asked the guy I knew what he did... his response... "I sat very very still."  Just goes to show you, you never know what you may face any given day.

In Michigan, with a CCW, you may carry a firearm during archery season. I don't carry that often during archery season but always during firearms season.

And if he had not "sat very very still." with only a bow, at over 40 yards, he would have been homicide #3 for the day.  By taking a course on CCW, one learns "when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em."  The incident is very sad indeed, but, IMO, under the circumstance, your friend did exactly the right thing.  I do carry at all times......with a permit.

I'm with you Dee.You never know these days. I'd rather be judged by twelve then carried by six. I also have a CCW and carry always.

Tis my humble opinion if you have a permit to carry, and you can legally carry, then you should be carrying!  Otherwise why bother to get the permit?  If your weapon is locked up somewhere and you need it you'll never have the time to go get it!

boy it'd be wonderful to help with your yote problem by taking their breath away with a well-placed arrow or handgun round. :thumbsu:
