Does anyone know the rated decible levels for the Middleton bows? Are there any direct comparison tests between these bows and other recurve or compound bows on the market?

Can't say for a fact, but all recurves make more noise  than most compounds. Also, most crossbows are louder than all verticals. My DTM 375 is louder than the predator, but most noise come from the bolt retainer. Put some heat shrink on it and did quite it some, but not significantly. Also, higher poundage recurve models will be noisier than lower poundage. My opinion, accuracy outweighs noise in the crossbow arena

At the ranges I choose to shoot (30 yds max) the noise has NEVER been an issue. The speed & accuracy over come the "noise"!

The heavier arrow you shoot the quieter the "device" will be. Vertical,horizontal,recurve,compound...My DTM375 is pretty noisy with real light arrows.(368 gr.) Get into some 425+gr. and the noise reduces dramatically.

Both comments are very true, especially the speed. I find the deer do not have clue when I hit them...even at 40 yards.

This why i go for speedy xbow.

I will give you excample :

SPEED VS NOISE

if your bow speed 350 FPS = 116.6 yards per secound
if you are shooting a deer at 40 yards able to thats mean the bolt need  almost 1/3 secound to hit the target !! aim and always be ready to shoot, i don't think the deer will be able to react too much after he hear your xbow !! IMO

wondering if anyone adds limbsaver stuff to their dtm or xcals like uncle ted had a vid on the other site showing how it very much helped the noise and vibration issue?

Ted is pretty clueless when it comes to crossbows really. He slowed down his bow by 20 to 30 FPS or more hanging all that junk on it.

Spin, I am grinning to myself.  Seems as if no one here has the answer to your question about comparative decibel levels, me included.  I'm a "newbie" here on CBN, though for years I have shot longbows, recurves, and recently even a compound!  Was an International Bowhunter Education Foundation Instructor and team leader back in the '80s.  What everyone has told you about noise/speed/deer reaction time is correct.  Sorry I can't help with decibel comparisons for you.  Good question, though!

As far as "Uncle Ted", God bless him, and God bless America!
