Just got to thinking about how much hunting we do, Looked back at my hunting logs I keep and averaged up my hunting days.

Found Since retiring I average about 55 days per year, starting with April spring gobbler season,  then in Sept with the urban archery deer hunt,  then regular Archery,  fall Turkey,  late archery,  then a hog hunt or two in  Texas.
In the middle of all this hunting,  manage to take a few coyotes.

How many days hunting do you average?
Texas Crossbow hunters - Hunter of the year 2010- 2011. 2011-2012
Texas crossbow hunters - White tail hunter of the year 2010-2011. 2011-2012
Texas crossbow hunters - Predator hunter of the year 2010-2011. 2011-2012

If I count my days scouting I would say that I hunted about 40-45 days this year. I am involved in several ministries at church and these limit my time more than anything, but I don't feel the least bit of regret about that decision.  In my youth I hunted obsessively, never missing a day if at all possible.  I would hunt close to a 120 days a year between turkeys, deer, coon, rabbit and predators.  I've since repented of my selfish ways and hunt something far less elusive and utterly more rewarding, time with my God. I do a lot of fishing which cuts into my hunting time. Almost as much as work does! I bow hunted about 15 evenings this fall, along with 3 days of SD pheasant and a few days of bunnies with the neighbors beagles and a couple goose trips. Put 4 deer in the freezer which is just about enough for a year for us. I'd probably bow hunt more but I've lost a couple of my best spots the past couple years. I've been hunting for some land so I'll have at least one place I won't have to worry about losing. Our bow season just was extended by 2 weeks so next season I'll probably get out more, especially because it's before daylight savings time ends (easier to get out after work)

About 50 days deer hunting (archery begins middle of October and gun ends last day of January). I will probably spend 30 days or more getting ready for next year's hunting season preparing and planting food plots; bush hogging; repairing, painting old stands, putting up new stands; posting signs, etc. And yes, I am retired.

I fish way more than I hunt,if I had to give up one it would be hunting!!!!!The mighty Susquehanna here is a great fishery...

I do keep track of days deer hunted and deer sightings. No real reason except to keep a record of sorts.  I am retired and hunt in two states. There were 125 days possible to hunt in 2011.  Out of those possible days I hunted 26 mornings and 21 afternoon/evening hunts.

I saw 19 bucks, 26 does and 4 unknowns. Some were unshootable and I also passed on several.  Seven of them came home with me.

I keep a log every season. This  Nov sat for 57 hrs, mornings evenings covering 3 weeks. Saw total of 10 deer. This was in Iowa,,the supposed land crawling with deer. Just to show there are places with not so many deer, even in Iowa.

I am retired also. Best I can figure out is 10 days turkey hunting and 12 bowhunting days as I went on a fishing trip for most of both those seasons and then 69 days deer hunting from Oct. 22th to Jan. 1st. I missed a few days but am pretty sure it ended up as 91 days total.

I'm not sure how many days I hunted this Fall, it was more than usual.  Lack of work made for more hunting time but a smaller bank account.  I saw more bucks than usual this Fall too. Only one of them was a shooter and he was too far to try with a crossbow.  There are a lot of good looking younger bucks who have great potential if they get the chance to reach maturity. I also learned where to set up along a bottom that had baffled me in the past.  I set up really high overlooking the entire creek bottom and found the trail the deer preferred to travel. I will be cutting shooting lanes in there in the next couple of weeks to make sure everything will be ready for next fall.

I took 4 does this Fall & could have taken that many more easily.  I just started hunting a farm that was new to me this Fall and it took a little while to figure things out.
