Hey everyone,

I'm new to crossbows.  In fact I'm in the market to buy my first crossbow.  I've hunted and taken deer with both rifles and vertical bows.  I've kept my bow hunting to 30 yds or less and I want to be able to reach out to 50 yds.  I've been looking at Excalibur and TenPoint crossbows.  I got a chance to fire the Exomax and I liked it except for the noise and the ridges which your hand has to rap around.  As a result I've been looking at the TenPoint Maverick HP.  I would appreciate any suggestions you might have for my first crossbow.

You should check out Middleton. Best recurve performance. Auto engaging safety . Lightest weight.  Bottom line...Best bang for you buck!!!

Welcome to the Nation and to crossbow hunting/shooting.  Getting out and shooting as many crossbows as you can is great advice....fit and feel are very personal things.  Start your search with a budget...include all the things you'll need...target/arrows/rope cocker/rail lube/string wax, etc.  Look at the major manufacturers, and begin to narrow your search based on available funds.  Decide if you want a recurve style or compound.  Recurves are generally easier to maintain, lighter, slower, and louder than compounds.  Look at warranties...not all are the same.  Also, look at available options....will you need a 'crank cocking device', such as TenPoints AcuDraw?

Search the different forums on this (and other) sites....get some feedback on customer service.....

There are lots of choices out there...take your time with your search, and have fun in the process.
