Hello all,

Being new to crossbows i need a little advice here.. and who better to ask..
so I have a WR invader shooting the lunenok carbon and the 100g grim reaper and also the 100g rage 2 blade.
I was recently invited to a hog hunt down in Texas. I have been shooting the pratice points that come with each and they both shoot within 1/2 inch of each other at 40yds
So here is my question will this setup work well with hogs?
I hunted what little bit of season (deer) that was left after i received by crossbow but didnt see anything.

Hopefully this will be more productive

Thanks in advance.
Scott

I used an Excal Vixen with 325 gr area using a NAP Spitfire shot this sow around 18 yds or so. Don't shoot no Boar with heavy gristle pad & light-weight arrws. Shoot below the pad & you will hit the lower part of heart

Thanks guys that is an awesome video learned alot there.. I have never hunted hogs with a bow before so hopeing this will be fun.. now for the stupid questions..

With the 100g grim reaper and the carbon 20" luneok (what the store I bought recommended) how much will my arrow weigh?(edit: found the weight 319 so with a 100g broadhead i am at 419.. ) looks like i am gonna be broadhead shopping again..

I dont have a way to weigh them or if you can give me some pointers on what to buy so I can please do so..

I know the age old questions what broadhead is better from what I have read and shot (got a fixed blade from a buddy) the mech seem to fly much better for me and seem to have a better shot placement I can put my shots in a 1" ring from 40 without much trouble so I feel confident there.. the fixed blade I had trouble placing in a 3" group at the same yardage.

Thanks again.. you guys have been great

If i had to choose between the two broadheads you mentioned i would go with the grim reaper. IMO it's a more durable head...what you need for hogs. I killed a 142lb boar two years ago with a light arrow (368gr ) by following vixenmaster's advice, slipped it in under the shield.
If your shooting light arrow's stick with the meat hogs.
Good luck!!

If you search NAP FOC on youtube you will find a video clip I did with several broadheads.

Going lite n fast on med sized deer are ok but hogs are a diff animal. Nutten wrong with mech. BH's just use enuff total arrow weight to go through them. I have shot them with mech. & fixed worked the same killed the hogs just shot placement is the ticket using mech. good luck on yer hunting

There's an bowhunter on a South Carolina hunting site that I'm a member of that has kind of been declared the unofficial king of hoghunting on that site.  His broad head of choice is the Slick Trick but will go even further to explain that without proper shot placement no broadhead will always do the job.  The vitals on hogs are much further forward and lower than on a deer so make sure that you have the shot that is needed!

I'll be the first to admit that I've never had a shot at a hog with anything other than a gun so far-where a well placed behind the ear will produce DRT's everytime, however after just acquiring a Barnett Jackal this week I'm looking forward to having more options when I go piggy hunting again!
