LOOKING for a Trophy Whitetail guide. I am very interested in a quality FAIR chaise Trophy Whitetail Hunt. I live in Michigan and would like to make the best educated choice I can for several hunts. I shot well with a Vertical bow or crossbow. I have next to no interest in taking a once in a life time deer with a firearm. I have hunted the same lands over the last 25+ years and have only seen ONE 3 1/2 year old buck {125+/- I passed already have a 120+}. So I may as well be hunting Unicorns {which I would shoot if I see one   }. Any suggestion would be appreciated either here or PM / emails. Thank you Tim D

I too live in MI and I will be interested to read the responses.

I have 10 acres I can hunt and only half of it is wooded. Luckily it's surrounded by miles of wilderness and corn fields. It's my boss' property. So if he ever decides to sell it, I'm screwed.

It would be VERY nice to go on nice hunt someday.

Check out the various outfitters in Buffalo County Wisconsin. Hunted up there two times and seen more big bucks in two weeks than I had seen in my life. Checkout Ohio and of course Iowa

Where ever you go,,make sure you get everything you expect written down on paper. I remember back when I lived in MI. I was born there, hunted there, mostly the N-Lower on public land. Got so tired of seeing only yearlings, finally saved up and booked a dream hunt in S-Dakota. Was more of a nightmare. These guys told me never had a bow hunter before. This was after I got out there of coarse. They were only used to rifle hunters. They drove around and shot from their trucks. I told them I needed blinds before I got out there. Their idea of a blind was some green pine boughs piled knee high and me sitting on a pail! They booked only 4 day rifle hunts, and when I left they admitted they would have to consider longer hunts for bows. Thanks, I was their guiney-Pig.{Not sure how to spell that}-Anyhow,,I did shoot a buck in 4 days, small one at that. There were a ton of deer, but they could not get me close enough. After shot, they couldn't find the deer- poor trackers. I finally found it, bloated,,they cut off horns and said ,,Yall come back now,,Yea ,,right,,,I took too much for granted. Should have spelled out exactly what I expected and wanted. Had a Guide/Rancher, friend out in WY. Top-notch! He always made sure his hunters left happy,,wharever it took. A free hunt, next season,,some fresh meat from his freezer, whatever. He always had customers. Just be careful, My Advice!!

My suggestion would be to tell your boss that if ever decides to sell you would appreciate first option on buying it.

It won't help you now, but if more states get involved with crossbows, I was thinking of starting a crossbow friendly outfitter directory here on the Nation.  What do you guys think?

How much are you looking to spend?  IMO, if your willing to spend $3000-$5000 you may as well go to IA.  No where offers a better chance to archery hunt trophy bucks than that state.  I have a good buddy that hunts IA, he says if you spend a week the odds of shooting a 130 inch buck are really good, but if you are looking for a 150+ its a total crap shoot.  May or may not happen.  That being said IMO Iowa still offers you your best chance at a trophy animal with archery gear.  Although it will take 3-4 years to get drawn.

If you wanna go with a crossbow contact this outfitter here in Nebraska:
Nebraska Sandhills Outfitters
Scot Rosendahl
402.920.1330
nesandhillsoutfitters@hotmail.com

This is a buddy/co-worker of mine, his hunters have taken some really nice bucks off the ranch and he only does bowhunts, no rifle hunting on this property.  Nebraska is now crossbow legal and I'm pretty sure he allows crossbows.

I suggest Kansas. I'd recommend an outfitter but the one I know is nuts. Great bucks - crazy outfitter. Good luck!

Hi everybody

Just few ideas..we can ( few people) rent a land or farm for hunting here in michigan and share the rent , Or it's not bad idea to go to close state or up north and rent a cabin with land for few nights.

Last season i went to Ohio (Scio) and rent a cabin with meals and hunt for 450 for 3 nights..the problem was we had all kind of fun But Hunt !!! all i saw was 2 deers..the corn was up, and i lost first day because of the rain ..but it's fun and nice people ( he has 1200 acers).

I m gonig to post request land for hunting in Michigan CN site , and see if we got any respond .
And i Know land (80 acers) in Irish hill area for 1200 a year ( a little high for me). but if i find partner or two we can..it's good land in archery season . but in gun season you see deer first day only !!!!

Good luck all

Oh if you go to IA you will DEFINETLY see a 140"+ deer, killing one, well thats a different story :)!

Also, the outfitter from NE listed above is supposed to have a website up and running soon, when he does I will post a link.  If you call him, tell him Chris Griffin sent him your way.  Him and I used to do a lot of pheasant hunting together. (back when NE actually had some birds!, but thats another story)

Here is the website I promised.  Scot does allow crossbows, there is even a picture of a hunter with his deer and an xbow in the video.
