Silly question.....is it ok to use paste wax for the bow string cables etc. etc.?  When my xbow arrived and I put it together, it looked to me like the string and cables had dried paste wax on it.  Just wondering.

Rub the wax into the cables and string dont forget around the cable slide. The rail also needs to be lubed most bows come with some type rail lube. I wax my rail every 5 or so shots or when it seems dry and my string and cables every 20 or so.

I mean paste wax that is used on furniture.  I do a lot of woodworking and its a very soft wax.  It is easy to rub in and gives a nice sheen.  The wax that came with my bow looks like chapstick.  I have been using it, but was just curious about other types of wax.

From the MSDS sheet for MiniWax Past furniture polish, which is a common furniture polish used by many:

http://www.rockler.c...D20000220AA.pdf

Active Ingredient:

69-70 64742-88-7 Mineral Spirits ACGIH TLV 100 ppm 2 mm

OSHA PEL 100 ppm

1 Proprietary C.I. Solvent Red 7

ACGIH TLV 0.5 mg/m3

OSHA PEL 0.5 mg/m3

Chromium Compound - 1% - 0.1%
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMHO, Mineral spirits and solvents are not what we are really looking for in a string wax material.

Chromium compounds can be abrasive and perhaps could cause unnecessary wear on the individual strings within a bow string.

My two cents for what it's worth.

Thanks to all for the quick response and great info.  I got a Barnett Jackel.  Red dot (3 dot) dead on at 10, 20 and 30 yards.  I did not have to make any adjustments.  I just wish September was here so deer season will start! :thumbsu:

No way would I use that stuff. More than likely it has some chemicals in it that could ruin your string.
