Saw this in the basement and got me thinking about when I killed this buck. This is the first deer I ever killed.

I got this deer in West Virginia the first week of regular rifle season, 1995. I was 15 at the time. It's funny I can still see this deer running up the hill towards me like it just happened yesterday. As you can imagine I was SO excited and shook up. It's hard to believe at 15 I put a perfect shot right behind the shoulder at approximately 80 yards. Great memory.

Thought I would share with you all.

Nice buck!
Is that a cockapoo checking it out in the last pic?

Haha nope that's my Miniture Snouzer. His name is Jake. He's always curious about my deer heads.

He looks a little like my cockapoo, Cubby...

Nice Buck!! Glad your first one was a buck as I hunted a lot of years before i got my first buck. I had to think back about 30 years to my fist deer. I do not remember the year or my age but I do remember the shot!!

Thanks! I was very fortunate to get a buck as my first.

The year before this I had an opportunity at a VERY nice 9 pt. The buck was only 50 yds away and when he stepped out I had the scope power turned all the way up. I couldn't find the deer in the scope (remember I was 14). My cousin who was there as well ended up shooting it. Needless to say I was bummed.

But this buck made up for it.

Sorry for the boring post. But I cherrish these memories. I can't wait to make some new hunting memories with my son when he gets old enough (providing he's into hunting).

What do you mean"sorry for a boring post"

ANY first kill is NEVER boring! We've all been there. Thanks for showing and sharing the pictures and story. VERY NICE BUCK!! Be proud!

Hopefully, you and your son will have many stories to share in years to come. Believe the old guy when I say..... IF you thought you were excited with this deer, just wait til your son puts down HIS first one. You ain't seen nothin' yet, my friend.
