Light gathering is important to me in the area's I hunt. I also like a minimum of options on the retical.(Nikon & Leuopld come to mind) For me less is more! My shots tend to be shorter so the magnification is not as important to me. I prefer a lighted retical. The Leupold in the $280 range would probably be the high end for me at the present time. I would prefer a matte finish rather than gloss or camo. UL when you come up with the "perfect" scope send it to me FedEx & I would be more than happy to try it out in the Pennsylvania woods! As you can see by the replies everyone has his/her own "perfect" scope! I do look forward to this field expanding as the crossbow community expands. These companies will cater to a market if they feel there is some $$$ return. Leupold has one scope as does Nikon. Most bows come as an option package to make the purchase easier for the consumer. I feel the rifle scope companies will jump in as the market warrants it!

Well I just checked my Email wondering about this post. I forgot about my last request since they usually result in a we will review.
This time I got a reply from a VP of a certain company that I can't mention.  It's one thing to ask for a quality product. It's another when you bring attention to the fact that a major competitor of said company has entered the market.  GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS are coming guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are getting the attention we deserve!!!!

Lord I hope so!!  I have contacted them a couple of times all but begging them to put that technology into a crossbow scope!!  How much is it worth?  Well it won't be cheap, their rifle scopes are about $900 and IF they make one I am sure the crossbow version will be right at the same.  Is it worth that?  NO.  Will I buy it anyway.  YES! :)

I will have as much or more tied up in a scope than I do my crossbow at that point.  Which isn't a horrible thing.  Often my scopes costs as much to twice as much as my rifle.  You know what they say:  Buy whatever gun you want and then spend as much as you can possibly afford on optics.

How much would that be worth to you?

Not very much. MOST of the shots taken with a crossbow will be very similar to the shots you take with a vertical bow. And probably 99% of vertical bow shooters don't have any kind of scope on their bow (including this guy).

I've done a lot of rifle hunting in my day and have never used a scope that costs over $130 maybe, and have killed lots of deer with my rifle. This is because I don't think I've ever had to take a shot over 250 yards. When your shots are less than 300 yards I don't think you need to spend $1000 on optics. Now for those 800 yard shot guys, different story.

I feel the same way about crossbow optics. I will most likely NOT be taking a shot over 40 yards. It might happen but will be rare. So for this guy my absolute max I would pay for the "perfect" crossbow scope would be $200. And it would really have to be nice for me to spend that much, and have a GREAT warranty.

Actually I have pm'd the members who asked specific questions not pertaining to the company that sent me the Email . I don't know if the company contacted UL to start this post or not. The Email I received was in response to several-" I "-sent over time and, it came with a Confidentiality Notice that I respect not to post pertaining information on here.  I'm not making this up: The notice states: This Email, including any attachments contains information from company x, which maybe confidential or privileged. The information is intended to benefit the use of the individual or entity named above. If you are not the intended recipient be aware that any disclosure, copying, distribution or use of the contents of this information is prohibited.  I spend the time to write companies about products that I want to see. Do You?  It's few that actually share the information.  So I'll chalk one up for myself.    VH64 you will just have to wait until the company releases the final products or, do what I did and, pursue it on your own to get what you want.  You're happy with a 3x scope on a Vent anyway right?   I just mentioned that new crossbow scopes are in the works because there has been little excitement until the Trijicon video opened the door for more quality products.

For those who haven't seen the Burris Eliminator video.    And to date, this isn't the new product/products I got a Email on.

Good shooting.

Just for the record, nobody has asked me to start this thread, and I know of nothing in the works from anyone.  I was simply just gathering information for my own use.

I don't want an eliminator to take long shots.  I want an eliminator to cut out dragging a handheld rangefinder into the field and having to keep up with it/dig it out.  Furthermore the simplicity of ranging an animal as it approaches and having the dot light up on my hold point is well worth the money to me.  No more fumbling back and forth between scope and rangefinder, no more being in a rush and having to remember which of 5 crosshairs to put on him.  Just simpler.

I realize it won't be for everybody and it wont't be worth the money to some and thats fine.  Just my personal preference thats all.  I just hope they actually make one and give us the choice!!

From a practical stand point the Hawke SR is as good as any out there. I am sure there are better but from a price and quality stand point it can't be beat. It has range finding capability, lighted recital, Eye relief when setup is perfect, the size and weight is good, and the price is reasonable. The optics are clear and light gathering ability are great. If it had a laser range finder built in it would be the perfect.

As someone who uses a crossbow due to limited vision :geek:  I would like to see the following:
1) Better light gathering ability
2) Lighted reticule
3) Low eye relief 2-3 inches is more than enough (I do wear glasses)
4) the more magnification the better,, I may not use higher power for hunting but it sure is nice when I target shoot (which I do a lot of)
5) A slightly larger eyepiece would be great
6) single cross-hair (my next purchase is going to be an optimizer)

As for price I don't really know.  I shoot my xbow a lot.  I haven't yet taken anything but a huge Glendale buck with it, but I have "killed" him hundreds of times with it the last couple of years.  :thumbsu:

It is hard to put a price on anything that can truly help you get more enjoyment out of life.  Any scope that fit my needs that is out of my budget, I would save up for!

I bought a Bushnell xbow scope this last year  (emergency buy my other scope blew apart) and there are lots of things I would like to see different on it.  However it was the best fit I could find on short notice.  I would have gladly paid much more a better scope but just didn't see one that did any better than it.  (Not many options where I live)

Sorry don't mean to ramble but am trying to stress than when you use a crossbow due to limited vision any improvements are well worth it!

The Parker PinPoint is on the right path to eliminate the use of the HHA dial.   More magnification with FFP, quality optics, Illuminated yardage lines and, this would be my gotta have hunting scope of choice.  The use of the yardage dial on the top turret and, the yardage lines in the scope would give you 2 options to use for shooting.  I'd use the turret dial for target shooting and, the yardage lines for quick hunting shots.
The best of both in one package.   Throw in a built in rangefinder and, I don't care how much it costs.

c-t,   can you say if this was the company you were referring to, and or any hints on timelines for some of these interesting new products.

I will definitely be going with a different optics set up this fall, as using the wrong reticle on a MR Hawke cost me a nice buck this year.   So I was thinking optimizer and single reticle good quality scope, but if better options are out or on the way soon I am interested.

Don't forget to keep extra batteries in your pack for those scopes that require them. A couple of seasons ago I had my Red Dot go dark at first shooting light. Not much good with out the dot. Had to let several walk that should have (at least one) been headed to my freezer.

A newbie asking a question. Why can't you use a good rifle scope such as a Leupold, Zeiss or Nikon?

I have both the Hawke SR and the XB30... I'll stick with the XB30, would like range finding included in the, (any), scope, but, another day, maybe. The SR will go on my back-up bow, and that's a misnomer, as the Wildcat C5 shoots and good as my Buck Commander.
