Hi All

I just came across a NIB '09 Horton 175 HD Real Tree. The guy wants $350.00 for it..

Is it a decent crossbow?

Need advice from the pro's, if you care to help a newbee.

Not much of a buy if it's a Horton hunter and no warranty.

I would say a decent price with all those accessories (scope/case)!!!!Me and my buddy grew up using Hortons and still using them, one of the best xbows price-wise and durability on the market IMO.....You will have no problem killing deer with it...... :thumbsu:

I don't want to pee in anyone's ice cream here, but I will give my honest opinion as a decades long Horton owner... I have probably owned 30 or more differrent Horton bows... what you have there is an "ok" deal but let me throw out 2 things for you to factor in before you decide. First, if you scour the internet you can most likely find NIB 2011 MODEL Horton Packages in the $350.00 to $400.00 range. I know I was looking last fall and found a few good ones in that range. With a 2011 bow you get up to date materials and technology and maybe a better scope... some of the older package deals didn't come with the lighted scopes. And secondly, as someone pointed out, and I always stress, warranty, warranty, warranty... if it lacks one that you can verify with Horton Customer Service in your name then think long and hard... the last thing you want to do is blow a limb or limbs and cams and have no warranty... (and remember, last I heard Horton does NOT transfer warranties, they are only good for the original owner) something as simple as a defective string or you accidentally nick the string with a broadhead (yep, seen it, done it), and don't notice, it can cause a catastrophic crossbow event that could cost you hundreds to repair. Now, if you are willing to take that chance on a bow with no warranty and if the other point is of no importance to you, then yeah, $300.00 for all that is an "ok" price imho, just as long as you are going into the transaction educated and satisfied with your rationale.

The new 2012 Hortons wont have lighted scopes if I heard correctly, and for $300 how much can you actually lose in the long run!!!!!!!!Sure you can mess the bow up by your own hands, but at least it most likely wont be a defective product from the factory.....Unlike some brands that are/have been shipping/shipped out for alot more money!!!!!!!!! :thumbsd:

If it will be your first crossbow I feel it is a good enough deal @ $300. for the package. You can customize it as you want later . It is enough bow to hunt most anything with . And I'm sure if something major went wrong with the bow that Horton would help you out.

I emailed Horton, but a friend told me they are good people and they would probably help me if a defect occured.

I own one a yaer older.. good Bow... with my set up I am not getting the speeds they claim. I assume a lighter head/bolt combo would help. But I like my 45-70 for hunting everything, so I naturally carry that over to me crossbow hunting.
