Crossbow Strings

Folks, I am new to crossbow's. I have noticed the crossbow string has a dramatic change in crossbow performance. Could someone explain how this is. I would have thought as long as the stretch was minimal and the string length was per design, the only difference would be in quality. I see that changing the string can cause a dramatic change in velocity. Thanks for any help rendered.

Welcome to the nation! If you are talking recurves, the difference in speed between a flemish string and and endless loop can be over 10-15 fps. I don't have a compound, so I'll leave that to others.

Flemish string is a bit quieter as well.
