Well...... I finally broke down and bought a scope for my firebird. The peep sight was OK, but it was only a matter of time before I would upgrade. The only crossbow scopes my local store had were the varizone and the lumizone. The lumizone was sweet looking with its big honking objective and illuminated reticle, but I couldnt justify spending the extra coin. Theres not doubt it gathers more light, but the varizone had plenty of clarity and crispness to suit my needs. I didnt really care for illumination anways.

I picked up some butler creek flip up scope caps as well. Setup was a breeze and the scope was only two inches off out of the box. A couple of clicks later, I was dropping laser II's into the into the twelve ring at 20 yards. Moved back to thirty and I watched the arrows arc into the bullseye in the scope after pulling the trigger. Backed up to 40 yards and it was still right on the money.

Decided to put off shooting out to fifty yards for another day. So far I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

I've always found my Varizone to be dead nutz accurate day in and day out. The butler creek flip ups are very dependable and durable. Well worth the money. Enjoy your Excal!
