I got a new Remington R1 Enhanced 1911 for Christmas (Merry Christmas to me!) and I really like it.  The trigger  feels pretty good and it is plenty accurate.  It even has an adjustable rear sight.  The grips that came on it, however, are deeply knurled and hard on my hands.  So I whittled a new set out of some basswood I had on hand, sanded it smooth,  wood burned the "color" into it and put my initials.  Not sure how well the basswood will hold up over time (I'm rough on my equipment) but it sure feels good.  And I think it looks pretty good even if I did make them.  I only took a picture of one side.  The other side is the same except instead of initials I put a "smiley face" with an eye patch and one arm sticking out with a pistol in its hand.  Sort of looks like Sporty87 before he's had his morning coffee.  :D

I'm doing okay although this body I am in isn't doing so hot. But the Lord is giving me a new one, so why worry about it?

You, my friend, are a multi-talented person.  The grips are fine looking.  I wish I had talent.  The only talented thing I can do is start the lawn mower and use it. :D   And believe me, it takes talent to get R started.

Gimmy, starting some equipment takes tremendous talent.  You should see me trying to get the chainsaw going!

Waj30, my dad has a colt 1911 I'd love to have, but he won't give it up either.   The trigger on that thing when it breaks over is a joy to feel.

Aimo, I'm sure I could make grips for anything.  I have so many irons in the fire I don't know when I'd get to work on them though.  I'm doing a free job for Hooked For Life Ministries right now making plastic keychains.  I made the molds and pour a two part liquid that when mixed together hardens into plastic.  The little items are in the shape of a cross with a hook in it.  HFL gives them to kids during indoor workshop days and they paint them.  Other days they take the kids fishing.

One thing I'd like to do sometime is carve out a bunch of different types of pistol grips with different designs on them to make molds of.  Then I could let people choose what they like and I can pour it.  Then again, I have lots of stuff I wish I had time to make molds of.
Anyway, I need to get hundreds of those crosses made, chickens to take care of, eggs to hatch, and lots of studying to do to preach and teach on Sundays and Wednesday nights.  If I ever settle down to doing just one thing and making grips are it, I'll let you know.   :)
