Has anyone tried or thought about using some type of teflon to protect bow string instead of wax? There are many types of teflon sprays and teflon tape available now. I haven't tried it but I use a teflon polish on my boat and it does make a big difference. Dirt and grime from the water wipes off with no effort.

I have not tried it but a friend of mine brought that subject up to me the other night. I'm just trying to find jigaloo in my area.

I have read some good reviews for the Dupont teflon non-stick dry-film lubricant spray used for metals parts including rails. I bought this recently and will try it out to see how well it works. IMHO, I don't believe using these teflon type of products would be the best for strings and cables since these are not made of metal or materials listed on the product label. I am now trying a liquid string wax desinged for bow strings specifically, which is not cheap (Scorpion Venom liquid string lube). The theory is the liquid string lube will penetrate better. We will see.  :)

Seeing that were talking about rails; I have a, Horton Exp. HD. The left rail sits a little higher than the right. My serving wears out on the leftside really quick. Is there a way to lower that one side? I was thinking of lightly sanding the edge of the rail. Do ya think this would damage the bow?

HF, I have seen this before, and in the cases I saw, it wasn't actually the rails at fault, it was the play in the limb pockets on the riser allowing too much play, or the riser not being square with the rails.  For example, there was enough play in the left pocket to allow that limb to be on a very slight downward angle, and enough play on the right for that limb to be on an upward angle.  The result was the string touching the left rail but not the right.  I think I would look at that first.  In your case I would try to check the square of riser to rail, or bring the left limb up, or right limb down, or somehow get them both the same.

I use Scorpion Venom rail lube, and it leaves a super slick finish, without being greasy. Lasts for a long while too.

A few years ago quite a number of people were having a teflon coating baked onto their rails and many were reporting a 10-15 fps gain in speed.  They also reported better wear on the serving, but it seemed like the releaser claws were wearing out the serving almost as fast, so it really wasn't a gain for wear.

As far as I know the finished product was durable, although only available in black.

It was expensive most people paid around $200 plus shipping.

On my Excal there was a slight difference in the height between the rail and riser, when I sanded it to be flush I got MUCH better serving wear.

I would contact Horton I have the exact bow and the rail is level on both sides. If your bow is less than 3 years old or I should say it has a three year warranty They will take care of you. But I wouldn't do any sanding on it.
