I always tell people to take a hard look at the Summits if you are wanting a climber. I love my Viper.

Grubs, I suppose it depends on your age and physical abilities. If your older or disabled, or just plain don't like heights, then a ground blind is the right choice for you. If your comfortable at no higher than a certain fixed height, then a ladder stand is the way to go. If you prefer to be mobile or need to change your height to suit your needs due to cover or wind or if the possibility of theft is a problem, then a climbing stand is the answer for you. It's a personal thing with how comfortable you are in a particular stand, kind like buyin underware because some guys like boxers vs briefs etc. Try a few from friends of yours to see what would work for you and make your choices from there. Personally, I ladder stands because their more stable, provide plenty of room, help provide a more stable shot, and they work well for me.

If you want a ladder stand and 18' is high enough for you, I would suggest the Buck Buster ladder stand. It is the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in. The 22' Sky Scraper is also very comfortable. As far as climber's, The Summit Viper is a good one. As mentioned above, don't leave out a good blind, I love um! Lots of good tree stands out there.

Love the flexibility of my viper climber stand.  No need to trim branches etc.  Allows me the flexibilty to go up or down depening on my surroundings, cover and shooting lanes.  Best part about my viper... the most awesome feature... was that it was free from a guy who left it at my house and moved to Tennessee... hahaha

I appreciate it allchokedup... it's still workin' great after 6 seasons

I hunt from a Porta Climb Cadillac tree stand.  You sit facing the tree, which can limit some shooting opportunities, but it has rock-solid rails I use as a rest (which is important because of my shoulder injury).  I also have 4 butterfly-style coupling locks on mine, so I can leave it in the woods for a few days and won't have to worry about it being gone when I come back.  I also tricked mine up by adding a G-Lox single rifle rack to the back.  It works great for hanging a pack off of if necessary. I also keep 30 feet of cord wrapped around the rack to pull my pack, bow, or gun up with.

No telling how many deer I've killed from that stand in the past 20 years, but it has been a bunch. I have two of them so I can alternate between stands regularly.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought three 15' ladder stands for $40 each including tax. It seems like there's always a need to put up another stand!

I have a summit 360. and its awsome. ive had it for 2 years and never tried it facing the tree. its really nice for rifle hunting. you can get in spots where normally you would be to exposed. their new models have the dead metal technology. they look really nice. if your talking about lock ons id get a millenium. if money was a big factor just get some big game stands and add extra ratchet straps to them.

I have used the summit goliath and I like it the only down fall is that they are a little tight inside once you get in. I am only 6" 210 pounds I just wish they were a little bigger

Take a look at the Summit Titan then.

The Summit Titan - When you simply need a large treestand!
The Summit Titan SD Climbing Tree Stand is everything you want in a climbing tree stand, plus an inch or two. The Titan SD, like all Summit climbing tree stands, gives you get the freedom to hunt wherever you choose without steps and ladders. But the Titan tree stand has the added distinction of being the largest climbing tree stand ever offered by Summit Treestands. The Titan boasts a Viper-shaped top with an additional 2" of climber width and length and a platform 1" wider and 2" longer. Add to that the 350 lbs weight limit and you've got yourself one big stand!

In my studly youth (years ago) I started out with an original Baker climber.  Then moved on to lock-ons which I made myself and could be leveled to any tree!!  Had a special belt with seperate pockets for eight screw-in steps and a small ratchet driver for screwing in the lag bolts as I ascended.  Now, with the wisdom of my many miles, I find that ladder stands work quite well for me.  This one is cool and highly portable:  http://thelonehunter.com/index.php  I tried ground blinds, but I get way too comfortable, and my snoring tends to scare away game!  Where I generally hunt (public land) I have to have something highly portable as I am the pack mule carrying it in and out of the deer woods!  I've recently designed a hinged bracket that turns my inexpensive Sportsman's Guide hang-ons into portable ladders, and they are what I currently use.  HapPy hUnTing, ya'all!

I've got a tree lounge, a 18' ladder and a couple hang on stands since I have quite a large area to myself. Since converting to a crossbow this past season I'm looking into a millenium hang on stand that has a seat similar to my tree lounge. I have a few people I work with that also crossbow hunt and they can really sit for a long time in those stands and also can move them around in case the situation changes or as I found out this season the bedding areas changed mid season due to extreme lack of winter weather. The big thing I really noticed is that with an excalibur crossbow I need a bit more room for limb clearance so I used more of the ladder stand and hang on stands this year and still managed to get a nice 8 point  and a couple does.

I've found only one problem with a Summit climber.  There to comfortable. LOL. I fall asleep everytime I get in one.

I've been using Summit hang ons with the Talon hanging system.  I LOVE them.  They by far are the easiest stands to put up that I have ever used.  I'm not a fan of climbers due to the fact that it's hard to get into a straight enough tree and still have any back cover.
