Extremely expensive but safe to use would be the 2012 Xpress at 1000. What crossbow are you trying to press?

XBowed I wish you would put your bow information in your signature, then we would not have to wonder what bow you have. The re-curve crossbows have a cable type rig to put in the limbs in cocked prosition and this will hold the bow in a relaxed fashion for replacing strings and so on. As far as I know you have to have a regular crossbow press for compound crossbows.

Look on the internet for home made bow press. There is archery sight I can say the name look there. If you handy and have a few tools they are easy to build I built mine to press my explorer and it works like a charm. A welder is preferred but not required. If I can remember I will post a picture of it tomorrow. Basically all you need is square tubing, bottle jack, Grade 8 bolts, wench cable and thick hose that will fit over the bolts. I built mine for less than 100.00. But It also depends what kind of bow you have as to what press you build.

On an associated query, does anyone have any info on changing out the strings & cables in a Horton Vision Cbow?

I recently purchased premium strings from Viper X and wish to learn how to change them myself.

Can a small "winch strap" be used to pull the two limbs together on the Horton Vision, thus allowing string/cable change?

Thanks,

Eagle Eye

No apology needed Xbow. Here is how you do it my friend. First thing to do is, open Crossbow Nation in another tab, so you have it opened up twice. This way you can go from this page to the other and follow the directions easier. If you have any problems, give me a call and I will walk you through it on the phone.  James Darrell Fultz  1-606-286-2078

#1. Just go to the upper right corner of the top of the page and click on your user name XBOWED there.

#2. Now click on the  My Profile in the drop down list.

#3. Now when your profile page comes up, look at the right corner straight across from your user name in the black with white letters and it will say Edit Profile, click on that.

#4. Now look on the left of this page and it will say Profile Settings. Go down to Signature and click on that.

#5. Now you can scroll down to the bottom area, just like a post, to add your signature and add pictures also. Hit the preview and look at it and then make sure to go to the bottom of the screen and click on Safe Changes. Now you have added a signature and it will appear on your posts and all of your posts since you started. This allows everyone to know with out asking what bow you are talking about when asking questions. If asking for a neighbor, we still need to know the bow he is asking about. Hope I helped you out my friend. Also XBOWED, anytime you are on the forum, hit the refresh button on the upper left hand corner of your page to see any new posts added whiles you are still there. It maybe a little circle arrow if you have Google. That is the refresh button.

Any time you need help XBOWED, just give me a call or PM me and I will help you my friend or anyone else, if I can.

That is neat Corky. Probably could be modified to work on a crossbow. Thanks for sharing.

The Vision should have come with a short service cable.  Draw back one the string using the cocking sled until you are able to slip the service cable over the posts on each limb (you may need another set of hands, although I do it myself).  Then release the tension on the string until the service cable is tight.  Now you will be able to remove the main string and the two cables from the pulleys.  If you don't have a service cable, you can make one out of a spare bow string pretty easily--that's what I did.

You can get a portable press made for the Vision from Horton. I would think it would be safer than a winch strap. You can get one for around 70.00

Well, No. I watched him partly taking the string off an Vert bow. I will go back and check that out.
