Hi Everybody,
I thought everyone would be very interested to know the latest news from the president of our New York Crossbow Coalition, Rick McDermott. Read the latest press coorespondence below. This means we now have full archery inclusion bills in both the State Senate and the State Assembly.

Now is the time to stand up and be counted, so please get ready to write the groups specified below associated with these bills. This is where we actually have the ability to use our numbers and get the laws changed once and for all.

We now have a companion bill in the Assembly

Assemblyman Sean Ryan (City of Buffalo & Grand Island) is sponsor of the Crossbow bill, A9682. This is the same as Senate bill S6747A.

I will be compiling a list of people to send letters to before the end of the weekend. Next week we will need to start contacting our local representatives asking for their support for these bills as well as the EnCon members in both chambers.

More to come soon.

Now that we have the Bill numbers...A9682 & S6747A. This is when everyone should be contacting their members in the Assembly and Senate, as well as the ENCON members in both chambers.
We are trying to compile a list of contacts to post.
I will be contacting each representative by phone,e-mail and letter by the first of the week.
Please do the same!

Hi Tinlodge,
I've seen a thread or two talking about how well we're doing with the progress toward getting the two bills (Senate Bill: S6747 and State Assembly Bill: A09682) passed. Also there was some mention about New York Bowhunters being shouted down at some level in Albany.

I don't want people getting the wrong impression or being miss led by rumors, so please let me clarify this comments a bit. We (New York Crossbow Coalition) are making some headway, but we still have the longest part of the journey ahead and desperately need support in every way possible. We are short handed in membership and in volunteers to help work with us to achieve our common cause.

New York Bowhunters Association is anything but quiet. They are massing their membership and focusing their attention at the sources they believe will support their cause. They have not openly been demonstrating against crossbow usage because that's not where the decisions are being made and it would be a waist of their time and energy. They'll reserve comment for where and when it counts the most.

We desperately need to build a membership if we intend to have some chance to show state officials that we are in fact a Crossbow Club that represents anything significant in the state of New york. Believe me, I know how tough the economic times are for almost everybody these days, but at the same time, let's face it the average hunter is willing to spend $20. on a new pack of broadheads, or any of 100 other things that he wants before going into the woods.

There are few things that anybody can spend their hard earned money on that will get them the ability to go hunting with their crossbow during archery season or other seasons for Whitetail Deer along with Turkey, varmits and other game animals. Please stop thinking that it's up to somebody else! If ever there was was a time that it would make all the difference in the world to take out that membership and to go through the extra headache to sit down and write a letter that gets copied to the list of people I'll supply in the next paragraph, it's now. I'm sure you all know how critical a factor timing is. The same applies to what we're doing in our efforts to obtain the hunting rights we're fighting for.

If we should not be able to build enough membership to successfully get these bills passed and obtain our rights, it will not only be a major defeate, but who's going to work to attempt agin in the near future? It could be years , if ever, before enough people and momentum could be assembled to do this again. At the same time, if we can get each person who lives in New York and reads this to simply decide they are willing to join New York Crossbow Coalition and help by writting or e-mailing the names on the list I supply, we could very likely insure our full and unlimited hunting rights in the state.

For the record, the two bills that I've outlined are all inclusive bills. This means that it provides the right to hunt with a crossbow during archery season, in archery zones and also to hunt with a crossbow for other species of game. It includes, but is not limited to our Disabled VETS and Handicaped people as well as anyone else who wished to use the crossbow for hunting or target purposes in the state.

Here is a list of contacts in both the State Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee and also the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee. Please insure you reference the two bills (S6747 and A09682) when contacting them and let them know you are strongly in support of having these bills approved and signed into the states permenant Legislature.

I know there seems to be a lot of address information, but if you simply construct your e-mail letter and then only copy and paste the e-mail ID's for each person, it's really pretty simple.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In the last two nights I have sent out 42 individual E-mail's to The NYS Senate and the NYS Assembly asking them to support the above bills.

I have already received some positive replies. I sincerely hope that many more of you will do the same.

I will now start making phone calls.
