I went for a ride over the may long weekend with a friend of mine, we found about 60-80 people, mid to ealy 20's having a huge bush party/camping trip. the garbage was everywhere. I took a video when they were there and again the next day to see if they actually cleaned up their mess. They didn't.

Enjoy

Yes, the video has been passed on to the authorities.

I would've tried to get every tag number on video...would've made it real easy for the cops to have tracked down some of the 'campers'......how did you video them without them realizing they were being recorded?

gopro on my helmet, I didn't realize that it was aimed down as much as it was. They hid their plates from me on the second trip but I did get one. I talked with the conservation officer this morning and the biggest problem is that with over 200 people there it is very hard to pin charges on any one person, even with plates.

Just out of curiosity...why didn't you notify law enforcement while they were there?

I actually didn't realize how many laws they were breaking until after and after talking to the CO, I realized that I should have. Having garbage sitting on the ground beside you isn't an offence but leaving it there is. After they were gone I found lots of other stuff.

Down right criminal.  I hunt mostly public land.  Unfortunately a lot of that land is riddled with debris.  If not cleaned up, nature will hide a lot of it during the summer growing season, only to be revealed again come fall.  Plastic bottles, food wrappers, cans, can take generations to decompose.  We should always take personal responsibility to take out everything we bring in, and then some.

Good on you for confronting some of the twits.  Be interesting to see if the authorities will pursue it.  Probably not.

Yes the authorities are pursuing this, on multiple fronts, in fact it has grown into a very big deal around here, it seems like my little video's have stirred a hornets nest, not a bad thing at all. I had four interviews with different media types today, two chats with the CO and it is being discussed on multiple forums. Even people that were there partying are chiming in and going back to clean up their own mess, the few that care anyhow. I'm pretty sure there has been some discussion between parents and their kids about this over the dinner table as well.

plus on the local TV news and just did an interview on the radio this morning. To me it's all about accountability and making sure people know that they have to be responsible for their actions.

fireguy, nice job!  You did a great service to the community.  Goes to show ya the difference a little bit of involvement can make (although from the looks of your truck, you did more than just a little bit).  I figured the butchered trees should get some attention, but wildlife agencies are spread pretty thin and often don't have the resources to pursue such matters.  A serious offense in most states.  Hopefully it will bring some awareness and deter others from doing the same.  Sad that we should even need laws for such things.
