Ive been practicing with grim reaper practice heads, using the 1 3-8", im shooting the white tail specials. Didnt think it would make a difference. It does. Had a shot at a monster tom, just over 25 yards at a slow walk. Put the top dot which is set at 25yrds on his back and center and squeezed. Off he flew. My wife was with me and said the dirt hit behind him. I came home and put the practice tips on and shot again, right on, did it twice with the same results. Put the white tail special on and shot, low and missed target first time, super high the next time. Cost me a huge tome, arrow and now two tips cause the blades are buried in my rhino now. On a happier note, man that was exciting, i havent seen a shootable tom that i could legaly hunt yet, i couldnt believe it when i saw this one. It didnt help that my crank rope snapped when i hit the second saftey. Cheaply made material. Still have a week. Hoping to see him again. Might have to switch to fixxed, no luck at all with mechanicals.
missed huge tom

Good luck with the turkey. I had the same thing happen to me with the crossbow. I switched to Magnus Bullheads (100 grain) and shot a large one in the neck at about 25 yards in 2010. The good thing about the Bullhead is it is either a clean kill or a miss! The thought of wounding one and not being able to recover it isn't a problem with my setup. Plan on doing the same this fall. Didn't get to do spring turkey because of a surgery. Bad timing on my part!! That turkey sure was tasty and no # 5 shot!!
