i just bought a starfire II crossbow for 10 dollars...does anyone know where i can get a book on this thng or anything  like that?

could anyone tell me how to take the front off of my starfire2 so i can fill it with foam  or lead me to a book or  forum that will tell me that will the cable have to be removed?????????????????????????????

Smokeycrisp,

Turn the bow upside  down. At the  front of the stock are two bolts (and possibly a stud for a sling) that hold the prod (riser and limbs) to the stock. Remove these bolts and the prod will seperate from the stock. Place some thin card stock or paper towel inside the trigger mechanism. This will provide a dam to keep foam from flowing into the trigger or linkage. Squirt household insulation foam into the stock and allow it to expand to fill the stock. Wipe or cut away any excess foam from allowing you to re-attach the riser to the stock. Voila! Put it back together and you will notice a greatly diminished noise level. (The hollow stock acts just as the box does on an acoustic guitar.)

Note that this will not reduce noise coming from other parts of the bow. Cable and limb noises are more complex issues that are not worth any attempts to silence.
