Ok...guys I'm going to chime in..I've been following this and keeping my mouth shut...BUT this has gone from..."no hunting on Sunday's and NO crossbows unless you are handicapped"..to..a dog hunting bashing. If you want to bash dog hunters..start your own topic and do so..other wise..STICK TO THE TOPIC..
   Just my two cents.....

Actually it didn't go to bashing dog hunting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with hunting with dogs where it is legal. And certainly there is nothing wrong with using dogs in a lawful manner as defined by each individual state. The point that was brought up was the illegal use of dogs. And I for one stick by my principles that we as lawful hunters should report hunting violations period. We are the eyes and ears for our respective game authorities.

Obviously some of us are opposed to using dogs to drive deer with but I honestly don't have a problem with it provided it does not occur on my land. By the way using dogs in this manner is illegal in Ohio. I would report someone for using dogs in this manner in my state. However I think it is illegal to shoot dogs here and I might have a problem with that if someone took the law into their own hands. I tend to lean towards the owner should be punished and not the dog.

I agree Dan ,what was described was illegal hunting activity in most states as far as I am aware.
You pretty much described my feelings as to the matter.

But,as Joey stated we have strayed from the original Subject.

What is wrong with hunting on Sundays. The animals don't know the difference.

I swear those bible thumping organizations need a boot up their asses to be reminded to keep their noses out of other peoples business. It seems like everytime someone does something, that the vatican or Southern Baptist council or whatever council the other ones belong to, they don't agree with. All of a sudden you are going to hell for it or it is against gods wishes.

Now, I have spent many a Sunday in the field hunting all by myself and not once has God ever said "Charlie if you don't get to church right now and quit hunting on Sunday you are going to hell!" Not once have I heard that and I would bet that none of you have either.

As for our brethern crossbow hunters, that is sad and just a case of the elitist bow hunters throwing their power around. I swear bow hunters think their way is the only way and everyone elses is not as hard or as fulfilling.

What goes around comes around as someone said earlier.

You know, there are still several places and countries that have kept that law. The reason is, you are supposed to be in Church tithing I mean, bonding with other families in the community. It's just a very, very old law. In the old days, that was the only time you spent off the farm, other than going to town for supplies. It was a great idea, but times have certainly changed.
The dog hunting is also an old law. It's only allowed in very few areas. A hundred years ago, that was how hunting deer was done in Virginia, and the Carolinas and Georgia. Old traditions, like the whole family going to church on Sunday mornings. It's obsolete in this day and age.

I'll tell you guys this much..that one of our large archery shops here in Raleigh does NOT support the Bow Hunters Association because of this move.
These guys need to get on board and SUPPORT the sport of hunting. We need every bit of support that we can get these days. With all the politics and such trying to SHUT down hunting..if we can gain an inch by allowing one extra day..then by God support it. Before long....people will be trying to limit it only to Monday through Friday..give them an inch and they will take a mile.....and by the Bow Hunters Association helping bring this down..they have HELPED those who DO NOT support hunters. I really don't understand it. We need to come together and go to some meetings that they have and really ask WHY??? I would love to be there to hear the reasons..in person.

Unfortunately this senario is repeated throughout the country where the crossbow is concerned. The old school "bowhunters" will support only their shortsighted agenda. They fight fellow hunters and their tactics sometimes border on or are downright anti-hunting! Their selfish "not in my season" mentality aids the anti's! The only plus to this is they are usually in the vast minority of hunters in any given state BUT they are usually VERY well entrenched with the policy makers so even if like in Pennsylvania where full inclusion was granted the anti-crossbow crowd is making a strong attempt to reverse that ruling with support from several Commissioners! So even if you go thru the proper channels & do the right thing it is no guarentee! It just never seems to end! We must just continue to fight....even when it apperars we have won! Don't give up in NC! It is worth the fight! We cannot let these selfish elitests dictate how we hunt! WE ARE THE MAJORITY....It just takes time!! Good luck!!!

Well, that is the best move that could happen with the archery shops. It's bad for business especially a competitive business to take sides and be on the wrong side. Kudus to that shop. Maybe other shops can be educated on the issue. In the mean time, I would only deal with that shop until others take the same stance for all hunters. Even if it were a little more costly for me to do so, or I had to wait on an order.

I live in NortWestern part of NC. I recieved my May issue of, WILDLIFE in North Carolina this past week. According to this magazine, all the new laws, Have Passed. .... No more need of permit to use crossbow. MuzzelLoading season will be extended by one week. Sunday hunting will be allowed for archery on private land. And the regular deer season will end Jan, 1 st. With all the talk of these new laws being held up, I called my local, Game Warden for my, [Watauga] county. He claimed that all the talk going around is untrue. And that the new laws remain in effect.  'But', if it turns out this warden is also wrong, I can just imagine the lawsuits , and cases for illegal hunting being thrown out of court. I just hope and pray this warden knows what he's talking about.

O.K  I called, Raleigh, fish and wildlife office. Seems like the NCBH got their way, and put the skids to crossbow hunting for this year, unless you have a disabled permit. They said it would most likely go into effect, next year. However, they didn't get their way with muzzle loader season. The comission will take away one week of bow season and extend muzzle loader to two weeks instead of one. They also screwed themselves, and every other hunter, out of Sunday hunting. The regular deer season will be extended to Jan. 1st. ......... This bickering has got to stop. The woods are for everyone to enjoy. Regardless of your weapon of choice. It will only hurt everyone in the end.  And the anti's will win.
